I was hoping they'd get a real good 4th line player. That way they could move Raffl up to the 3rd line. If they move Raffl, that 4th line becomes atrocious again. He keeps them afloat. Even with Downie, the 3rd line is still very strong.
I thought Downie did some good things today. Worked the boards well. He just needs to recognize the officials are going to call him for anything. He can't get too involved after the whistle. - PhillySportsGuy
i certainly wouldnt want to stray from my boy read. but raffl impressed the hell out of me today.
the flyers have tremendous depth. like i said yesterday, if you guys can rearrange the mix on the back end, and bring this intensity against the rest of the league, i dont see why you cant be a force. |

like when someone goes up 3 or 4 goals, you need to lose a limb to get a call. its just so predictable. - stayinthefnnet
I know. Last week, Downie was called for a penalty when he was high sticked. The refs had to get together (and look at the replay on the board, which they aren't supposed to do) to get the call right.
They just see chaos around Downie and assume he did it. |

He just has to understand time and place better, and really Read and Coots could make any guy look good. Very responsible two way forwards who seem to be getting better as the season progresses. I'll admit I'm Coots biased, but the guy is starting to incorporate his offensive game without hurting his defensive responsibilities.

I know. The Flyers have enough of those guys. They need to move on from Downie. His reputation and poor judgement is getting the team into trouble. |

It's been that way since they substituted a puck for a frozen cow chip, with of course the exception of the first couple of years coming out of the '05 lockout. |

The reason is because they rarely play like that for more than 40 minutes. Maybe this sweep is the end of that. |

Exactly -- if you call it all, fine. If you call nothing, fine. But don't penalize a team for kicking somebody's ass at the start, then make it so you're actively screwing them after
Like I said, I was like, "(frank) it" when Downie got slashed and his stick broken RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE REF, who then gave Downie a penalty
When that happens, screw it. Protect yourself at all costs, because you're not getting a call |

I just hate how he plays so selfishly. He needs to simplify his game and stop trying to leak out on breakaways so often. He gets his line in trouble so many times because he's just looking to score. |

exactly....and the announcer just yucking it up the whole time. when downie FINALLY gets away with one they do a full on video review - hogweed
I was laughing at that as well....there was a worse one, from Bartuzzo, or whatever his name is....off the draw Downie went to the net got hacked , punched and knocked down....without puck....so a vacant Elbow that was missed is just proper hockey karma in my books...

agreed ... Rinaldo and Hartnell is enough for me. No need for a 3rd guy to stir the pot.
Downie actually makes Rinaldo look calm.

Rinaldo has been a lot better since returning from his injury. I think he got carried away with trying to do too much this season. He wanted to develop into a PKer and lost his focus. He seemed like he was trying to overcompensate. It hasn't hurt adding Raffl to his line also. |

Could've crippled our chances, instead let me see Marc-Andre Sieve give up 7 in 70 minutes
My weekend...it just feels so right
