I thought these two games were the worst regular season games Crosby has ever played agains the Flyers. - PhillySportsGuy
I'm giving Couts and Read credit for that and not saying it was just two off games for him. |

So now the flyers only have to win one more game over the next 7 cuz everyone said that we were only going to win 3 of the next 9. No one has faith. It's sad.
Does Pittsburgh really have no one other than glass to play on the top line? Even with 3 player injured that is crazy. |

if at any point you would like to be the pens coach, you have my vote.
the despres thing is absolutely inexplicable. - stayinthefnnet
It is really suprising. Bortuzzo is a borderline NHL d-man, and I have a lot of repect for Orpik, but he looks cooked. I'm not sure at this point in his career Scuderi can log the hard minutes in the playoffs it will take to make a long playoff run.
As an organization, I would be playing Despres 18 minutes a night and give him the chance to improve. He could be the physical, grit element that your d-core could really use. |

not to take anything away from either of them, as they are both great defensive players. we all know how good Couts is, but yeah, read is so crafty in that regard as well. that being said, its much easier with the lines being this way. make crosby pass (which he is naturally inclined to do anyway) to tanner (frank)ing glass and craig adams is a solid plan. not that kunitz and dupuis are stamkosesque, but they are simple and effective players that can score those passes and at least require being accounted for. - stayinthefnnet
Its embarrassing who they have playing with Malkin and Crosby. I don't understand how they don't have some scorers in the AHL. At least the Flyers have guys like McGinn and Akeson who can come in and play top 6 roles in a pinch. |

Their farm system is the opposite of the Flyers, good defensive depth, not much forward depth. Both organizations would actually be good trade partners, which of course will never happen.

Traded for too many rental forwards over the years I guess? How can there no skilled young guys to bring up and give a shot on that line? |

They'll allow a certain amount of stuff to go on. But Downie used his head as a weapon not once, but twice into the chest of the Pen. He deserved to get the 2 minutes. - MJL
just as bortuzo deserved 2 for slashing the stick from downie's hands or for holding him. but that is the nhl's version of even up: let the pens get away with 5 and let the flyers get away with 1 |

Of course they do now. But three days ago everyone in these boards were saying we'd only be winning 3 of the next 9 except me and you. And I was the only one who said we'd go 2 for 2 this weekend. |

the pens, for better or worst, draft the opposite of the flyers. defense defense defense.

Downie deserved to be penalized there. That was pathetic what he did. He's gotta keep his stuff together better than that. |

They have Alt, Lauridson and Gus. Lauridson can fill in as a defensive defenseman replacement, Gus can fill in to supply offense. Alt has promise, but were not sure where he's at in his development.
Those guys would make the team worse but Alt and Lauridson have shown to be adequate replacements. |

Is not having faith in players also sad? Lecavalier had a goal and an assist over the weekend and was a +1.

The scouting staff has done a poor job of evaluating defensive talent, it hasn't been from a lack of drafting d-men. The last two drafts have been promising, but with the financial resources available for this franchise, they needed to do a better job then just the last two drafts. For whatever reason, the scouting staff does a much better job of evaluating forwards.
