i agree with this.

I do think I might take Toews before anybody, though. He's literally a combination of Bob Gainey and Steve Yzerman.

I didn't know there were so many Crosby fans in this thread. To me, Crosby is a hell of a player. He offensively dominates the game like few have ever done before. However he lacks the heart and attitude to be even better. He'd rather try to draw a penalty and dive, then fight through the obstruction and make a play. When things aren't going his way, he whines, takes dumb penalties and looks like a baby, because he is one. He's a diva player; no way around that. He gives up and gets intimidated when things don't go his way. This weekend was a perfect example of that. Go back to last year and look at the Boston series. He's totally ineffective when it comes to these type of games. And to me, that makes him not the best player in the NHL. This kid could be the next great one if he wasn't a coward. I know Pierre McGwire's head would explode if he read this. As a Flyers fan, I'm not scared of Pittsburgh in the playoffs at all. Pittsburgh could beat anybody besides the Flyers and Boston, because those are the two teams that can shut down Crosby and Malkin. Sorry to get off point, but Crosby isn't the best player in the NHL in my opinion because of the things I mentioned earlier; IN MY OPINION. That's all it is, is my opinion.

i went back and double checked. He had 2 goals & 1 assist.

it wasnt that i didnt believe you, just the sentiment i remembered pulling away from that series was that it wasnt really his best.

i guess sort of how you guys felt with coots on malkin when he still averaged over a point per game. you have to go above and beyond to not have that bitter taste if the result is a loss.

Upshall and a 2nd for Carcillo?
- Tomahawk

Unless you are a pre-teen girl from when this trade was made why think the Flyers lost? I sort of feel like the Myth of Scottie Upshall is an urban legend with a few people here.

No worries with the opinion, its all we all really female dog about on here at the end of the day.

I'd fear Pittsburgh though, no matter how much they seem to be in their head. If they get healthier, they have so many weapons. Even today, with a short line-up the game was within a post of being tied.

Many good teams, and many that could leave the Flyers as the walking wounded themselves.

Also lacks the injury history that both Giroux and Crosby have.

He had an absolutely absurd one-timer goal in game 1. It looked like the Flyers would potentially run away with that series after Briere's OT winner (2 technically), but the Devils made adjustments and the Flyers didn't.

You are right, it is just your opinion because reality doesn't back up anything you are saying.

I don't think he played well vs NJ, but he did produce offense. He was definitely a non factor for most of that series.

It could be just the 2nd for Carcillo and it would have still been a fleecing.

Would have been nice to have a shot at Kucherov, Prince or Trochek with that pick.

Edit: and it wasn't just the trade itself... it was the reason behind it... they did it just to save $900k to bring somebody off of LTIR, I believe, and keep Giroux up.

Eh, not really.

Toews has missed 65 out of 540 possible games in his career, the majority with a concussion suffered in 2011-12, while Giroux has missed just 5.

Agreed. It wasn;t that Giroux was awful as much as Laviolette getting out coached.

Ovechkin is the best goal scorer in the NHL and won the MVP last season. Not sure why my opinion of Ovechkin over Crosby seemed so crazy. I've been watching them closely since they came in the NHL and that's my opinion. Ovechkin is awesome and got MVP last year. I think his game is better than Crosby's.

Of course, Toews never played badly for 15 games because he can't hit a 9 iron

Maybe he exhausted every other option and this was what was left. We all knew it was a bad trade from Day 1. He's been doing better lately, except for the Vinny deal.

You rip Crosby for being a on way player and then celebrate Ovechkin?

Ovechkin literally does one thing-scores goals. He doesn't play defense, he doesn't elevate teammates(the way Crosby has with Kunitz and Dupuis), he and his team have badly underachieved in the playoffs several times and he doesn't work half as hard as Crosby does to make himself better.

I think you just have a hatred for Crosby.

The Flyers were in absolute cap hell that season. It would have been better to trade Upshall for a pick than to trade him and a pick for Carcillo.

When are you going to post a stat or metric that actually backs the statements you are saying?

Ovi is a -31 this season.

Both Ovi and Crosby have won the same awards.

Common... he's pretty much the best goal-scorer of this generation... he's miles ahead of where Bondra was at the same point of his career. OV's about 1.5 seasons away from 500 goals already... that's pretty mind-blowing.
