First fire Gillis then hire someone who understands how to sign people without giving them a NTC. This team is going nowhere and needs a tear down and rebuild with youthful players with reasonable contracts and decent upside. Trade Kessler, Edler, Bieksa, Garrison, Hamhuis for picks and prospects while they retain some value. Buy out Burrows albatross, waive Booth. - Grumpy13
Thoughts on potential replacements?
Personally I really like David McNabb. Other guys I'd be okay with are Julien Brisebois, Jim Benning, and Rick Dudley |

That's why the Canucks have NTCs, you can't have it both ways. |

Free agency isn't what it was before the cap era, the big names don't get to FA, they get resigned before July 1st. You're left with people cut for cap reasons or because they don't fit with the team anymore or veterans that are on the outside looking in. FA now is mostly for teams looking to fill their AHL rosters with veterans to help mentor their prospects, it's no longer about getting the difference makers, that's what the draft and trades at the drafts are for. |

McNab is #1 on my list. IMO he'd be a string hire just like Nill in Dallas and the Finnish guy/Davidson in CBJ. Guys who can recognize talent to build up assets.
I don't hate Gillis though. I also think it's likely better if he's around for this draft, he knows which scouts to trust over the years. Unless you bring in a guy like McNab who's already in a FO position with the Ducks currently and knows the draft prospects well.
Torts has to go IMO. |

Yup, the smarter and more well managed teams build their core through the draft/trades and spend wisely in free agency. |

Following his playing career, he served an amateur scout for the Anaheim Ducks (1993–94) and then joined the Buffalo Sabres as a scout (1994–98) and as Director of Amateur Scouting (1998–2004). In the summer of the 2006, he became the assistant GM of the Boston Bruins. His name was included on the Stanley Cup for the 1st time with the Boston Bruins in 2011.
He is married and has four children. He resides in Boston, but lives in Portland, OR in the summer. |

I've always like Rick Dudley and he might be what this team needs right now:
Considered one of the best pure talent scouts in the game, Dudley exercised the “out” in his contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs to join the Canadiens in May 2012 as an assistant to GM Marc Bergevin.
The Toronto native joined the Maple Leafs management team in 2011 after being let go after three seasons as GM of the Atlanta Thrashers when the team moved to Winnipeg.
Dudley has also been a GM in Chicago, Florida and Tampa Bay, where he played a significant role in building the 2004 edition of the Lightning that won the Stanley Cup.
McNabb and Benning also sound interesting. |
