It's a chance at a GM role, which is something he's never had before. That said, maybe it's something he never wanted to have. - AlexF
I hate to break it to you guys but I don't think Gillis is going anywhere. Unless he walks but I doubt it. |

Possibly he would want the challenge and pay raise, but once a Canadian gets used to Southern California they seldom come back. |

Julien Brisebois Is worth a look. AGM of the Lightning for 3 years. Has built one of the strongest farm systems in the league.

That team has Yzerman's imprint on it, though no doubt Brisebois would have a regular say. It's tough to tell with these AGMs how much influence they really had on the finished product. |

Not to re-hash the same conversations again but I believe that decision comes down entirely to the amount of direct influence FA has on the decision-making. If Gillis is a puppet then he won't be going anywhere. If the reports are false and MG is the one and only decision-maker (getting owner sign-off from time to time of course) then I believe it's a 50/50 chance he goes.
As a successful businessman I doubt FA likes to write-off bad decisions. Paying out an employee a 4 year severance package is exactly that. |

I covered Markus Naslund's reaction to the rumours involving Vancouver here. If Canucks GM Mike Gillis wants Naslund and Naslund wants to commit full-time, here's a way to do it: Naslund becomes GM and the face of the franchise; Gillis and his braintrust (Laurence Gilman, Lorne Henning, Stan Smyl) teach him how to do the job; Naslund's role evolves as he gains experience. It could work.

If Gillis stays, the next few years will be very unpleasant for him. He would likely accept a buyout. |

You can't refuse a buyout. A GM gets fired and the owner will legally be obligated to pay out the remaining term of the contract. Unless you are referring to if Gillis resigned his position, which is different.
My point was that the decision is entirely FA's to make. And I'm not sure with a beleaguered coach to also throw in the mix, whether FA would like to buyout one or both contracts. |

I'm definitely intrigued by him since TB's scouting and asset management has been pretty solid. Would also like to know his role, is he a Gilman numbers type or a good talent evaluator like a McNab.
FYI for those suggesting McNab might not be interested, he's originally from Vancouver so he could be persuaded to come home an get a nice raise. |
