Yeah. it seems almost beyond the laws of nature to have 45 goals yet be -31.

I still think I would take OV over Backstrom, but I might think about it a little bit.

- MBFlyerfan

Imagine OV on one side and Giroux on the other side of our PP. OV would have 70 goals by now.

Flyers were asked about the keys to shutting down the Caps and they said its all about stopping Backstrom.

Ovi stands along the half wall and just blasts away. He does nothing else.

If there was a draft for all current NHLers, where would the first defenseman be selected? Where would the first goalie be selected?
- PhillySportsGuy

Let me start off with goalies. I believe the first goalie doesn't get selected until the 2nd round. The goalies of today are not the Broduer's or Roy's that would warrent a first round pick. And the best goalies of today are no longer in ther prime ie Lundquist, Miller. The only exception I see to this. The only Goalie going in the first round is Jonathan Quick.

As far as defenseman go I believe you will see your Star players go first. Crosby, Stamkos, & Ovechkin. Then you might see Weber go. Followed by more star players like Giroux, Towes, Kane, Getzlaf, etc. Then you will see a huge run on defense like the Karlssons, Subbans, Doughty's and Suters of the world all get snagged up.

I would love to get 30 people together to do a draft then have independent evaluators determine 1-30

But you have to create criteria a team will be judged on... Most likely to win SC this year. Most likely to become Dynasty. Best offense, Best Defense... ETC..

If you want to go THAT in depth, then you'd have to include all current draft picks, i.e. you'd have to have a list of all of Phoenix's past 3 7th round picks, for instance. I'd say prospects are either off limits (limited to NHL/AHL rosters) or you can only pick players selected in the 1st/2nd round.

If OV were left-handed, maybe.

Jagr in his prime would have been perfect... VL in his prime would have been nice as well. PK wouldn't know which side to cheat to.

Limit it to players that have played in at least 1 NHL game. Example, Drouin not available, but MacKinnon is....

We are just redistributing the current NHL teams. No prospects or minor league guys. We'll do it based off of if a player is listed on an NHL team's cap central page here on HB.

TBH, don't think the first dman would be in the top-5 picks, even with dmen so coveted. Stamkos, Crosby, Malkin, OV, Toews, and Tavares would be hard to knock out of the top-5.

1st dman would be Karlsson or Hedman, based on age and upside. No idea about goalies.

Has to be random. Everyone will want the Flyers from this thread.

I think we need to include others from other threads. We would need good judges. We will need to find Bill and clone him several times.

Should it be open to only HB peoples?

I say we do a draft, 1-30. 1 gets first player pick, 30 gets last. For a little payback, 30 gets first choice of team, 1 gets last.

Brett Hull didn't do anything else either, but he was still a hell of a player... and I'd probably say OV's effort level is way above Hull's in general.

So would anyone be really upset with this team next season?

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Lecavalier-Simmonds
Raffl-Couturier-Read
Wellwood-Laughton-Rinaldo

Niskanen-Schenn
MacDonald-Coburn
Streit-Morin

Mason
Heeter

- SchennBros

1) I would be very leery of a huge dollar, multi-year year deal to Niskanen to make him a top-pairing guy. Now, he's grown up a lot as a player in Pittsburgh the last few years but a) is still prone to running hot and cold in his play and b) I saw enough of his play in Dallas to know why he got buried deep in Marc Crawford's doghouse.

2) I don't think Morin is NHL-ready yet and I want to see the Flyers resist the temptation to rush him.

3) I'd rather see the Flyers get a veteran backup in case Mason gets injured. I'm still more comfortable with Heeter as a potential callup to back up the regular back up than as the guy who could suddenly become the starter if Mason goes down.

Brett Hull also had one of the 4-5 best (hard and accurate) slapshots in the history of hockey. I doubt OV flirts with 700 goals.
