thanks, bill. - hammarby31
I think Bill, said it in a previous blog. Emery wanted more of a share of starting, and isnt getting it here. But he is being a trooper about it. Likely to move on to a team where he can platoon with a goalie and try to earn Number 1. |

Thanks for the input. But I guess that means you think the only way the Flyers can solve thier defensive issues is though trade then? - SchennBros
Well, more and more, I think that Timonen won't retire quite yet and the Flyers will sign him to another one-way contract. I do think they may trade for a defenseman this summer as well, especially if they can't get MacDonald re-signed.
First and foremost, though, I think the Flyers "defensive issues" stem more from team D -- players moving feet, puck support, etc -- than lack of capable personnel on the blueline. The group they have now isn't spectacular but at least they have six bonafide NHL defensemen to run out there.

Emery may very well want that -- opportunity for more playing time was a big reason why he came here at a fairly discount one-year contract -- but I don't think he'd be a starter anymore for any NHL team.

Not sure if anybody shared yet... the following changes to the draft lottery are being considered:
- top 3 (or 5) picks would be decided by the ping-pong balls (instead of just #1),
- the drop-by-no-more-than-one-spot protection would get lifted,
- odds would be determined by past 5-season performance, not just past season,
- odds of winning #1 for absolute worst team would go down to 18.9% from 25%.
Tanking for MacKinnon is probably going to get a lot riskier.

Think you could take some time to review the progress of the top four defensive prospects in an up coming blog? Morin, Ghostisbhere, Alt and Haag. I've seen each of them but Haag in at least a half dozen games this season. I'm wondering what your perspective is at this point. You've kept us fairly up to date with Haag. |

Nice. You could conceivably (well, mathematically) win the Stanley Cup and draft #1 at the next draft. |

Nah, lottery's still only open to non-PO teams from that season. You could conceivably suck for 4 years, win the Cup once, and have a good shot at 1st-overall in a non-Cup year, though. |

Is that a fact? All teams are going in the lottery and just not the non playoff teams. I know it's only under consideration but is that what they're considering. I like that until it actually happens. |

Somehow I have a feeling this is will get shot down. How can teams like the Flyers, who always try to win like it when they have 1 horrible season then get screwed out of the 1st overall pick......... |

Ah, I missed that, the 17-30 bit.
But okay. Let's use the 1993 Phillies as an example. Assuming they actually won that year, they were pretty awful in all of the surrounding years. So, come the 1995 draft, their records from 94, 92, 91, and 90 are going to far outweigh their one good year, and they could conceivably draft in the top 5. |
