Unfortunately, the only people we can get any value from are Kesler, Bieksa and Hamhuis. Twins, Burrows, Edler, Garrison, Booth all have albatross contracts no one would want. - Grumpy13
Burrows!?!?!?! The guy is averaging 2 points a game over the last 4 games!! |

The only reason I dont want him as a GM is I dont want to grow to hate someone I admired in the organization.
Can you imagine if Naslund was the one that Fukked this team up so badly and not Gillis.
I dont want to hate Naslund, Therefore I dont want him here. - vancity787
This is exactly what they are hoping for.it buys them an extra two three years even though MG is running it all along and Nazzy is the poster boy. |

Pretty scathing indictment by Gallgher of how Torts has managed Kassian this season.
Spoiler alert: he thinks he needs to leave Vancouver to get a real and consistent shot as a top 6 player.

Typical for the NHL. Make up new rules to screw up the Canucks.
We should join the KHL |

Why I think it wouldn't work is the fact that we haven't developed players very well, we could tank and get a McDavid or Eichel but the problem lies in that for all his potential generational talent, we could end up not developing him properly and end up with a Nedved, instead of a Bure. Doing a Chicago or Pittsburg-style rebuild requires having the pieces to put around a Crosby or a Toews or else you end up like an Edmonton or Islanders that have to continually rely on multiple rookies in the lineup to ice a team and wonder why they fail constantly. - DariusKnight
Valid point however, I think we do develop players okay. Tanev, Schneider, Lack, Kesler, Bieksa, Burrows all developed pretty nicely. And Jensen and Corrado look prettty good if you want to talk more recent. We do have some solid pieces coming but I think it's going to be another 2-3 years before we see Horvat, Gaunce, Shink, Corrado, Fox, etc become impact players. Which is hopefully when one of Swedish trifecta goalies becomes a top 5-10 goalie. What this group is lacking in my eyes is a real top flight offensive producer ( I see Horvat as more of a P.Bergeron type player). McDavid or Eichel would be that top end offensive player, not to mention the player we add this year (hopefully a stud winger Draisaitl, Dal Colle, Virtanen, Ritchie, Perlini). |

It was like 24-6 without Kes before this injury. |

I don't particularity disagree with anything you've said here, but I still don't see any way that this team will finish bottom 5 in the league next year unless we clean house for picks. And neither FA nor Gillis would sanction such a radical move this summer. - AlexF
...or if Torts is still here cracking the whip, the team quits playing for him, but FA is too cheap to fire him. |

It's only $8m for Torts, and FA saved $30m shipping Lu out of town. |

Yes, our top players will be one year older. That much further removed from their prime. Colorado, Chicago, Anaheim & St.Louis's top players are all mid 20's just coming into their prime.
Sedins have really aged well though. Their game hasn't dropped off at all the last two years. Oh and they aren't becoming injury prone. Nope not them. Burrows doesn't go stretches without scoring. Correct me if I'm wrong but won't those 3 be 35 next year? Our top line will all be 35 and we're likely trading away the only true 2nd line player we have in Kes. Sounds like an effing disaster to me. And 3 of our 4 top d are all over 30 too.
No, I don't want to be like Edmonton or Calgary. I want to be like Chicago & Pittsburgh. Edmonton's rebuild has failed but their mgmt are idiots: "Let's add all forwards, won't need d or a goalie" - joesmith84
I've stated this before but the true parallel I see for us is in none of those teams but you mention above, but rather the San Jose Sharks. Thornton, Marleau, Boyle, these guys are 30 something vets that have been transitioned to 2nd line duties (and more importantly facing 2nd D pairing opposition) while a mix of Couture, Pavelski, and Burns, along with the odd rookie like Hertl or Nieto have taken over 1st line duties. This is a team that's won President's trophies, drafted as late as we have been, and yet have been able to draft and develop (Couture, Pavelski), trade (Burns), and sign FAs (Stuart, Niemi, Torres) well enough to stay competitive.
If a Kesler and Edler trade(s) can net us two young top 6ers that could soon take over 1st line duties and this organization develops Kassian and Jensen properly, we could turn the tide real quick here. |

8 mil for torts and 8 mil for MG . 4.2 for Booth. That would be 20 mil FA shells out to keep us happy. 30 mil saved on Lu will be spent on his divorce lawyer. |

So you dont want to be like Edmonton or Calgary? You would rather be like Pittsburgh? The team that drafted top 5 for 5 consecutive years? 2-1st overalls, 2-2nd overalls (one being Malkin) and a 5th overall? Yeah that is SOOOOO much better than Edmonton...
Or Chicago? the team that drafted 3rd overall, 7th, 3rd (Toews), 1st, then 11th overall? When they already had Keith and Seabrooke in the system? Again....SOOOO much better than Edmonton or Calgary. |

I know, I posted it above. I just think a different coaching staff would be able to manage him better. That said, he doesn't seem like the brightest light in the west so maybe he'll always be a 2nd-3rd line tweener. |

He really does drift off into his own little planet at times. I also heard on the 1040 earlier about TG article.
If he was part of a package deal with Kes I would be open to see what the return would be.
Earlier this year I said I would hang on I like his game , that seems like so long ago. |

I don't think any trade for Kassian would get us an equal or better asset in return at this point. I could be wrong. |
