All this team needs, for a quick improvement, is a good second line center. Trading Kesler is the key to getting better.
Oh - and to get rid of John Tortorella...he's singlehandedly destroyed our offence with his "systems". |

I don't think any trade for Kassian would get us an equal or better asset in return at this point. I could be wrong. - AlexF
They just need to give him a chance playing in the top 6 consistently. |

Valid point however, I think we do develop players okay. Tanev, Schneider, Lack, Kesler, Bieksa, Burrows all developed pretty nicely. And Jensen and Corrado look prettty good if you want to talk more recent. We do have some solid pieces coming but I think it's going to be another 2-3 years before we see Horvat, Gaunce, Shink, Corrado, Fox, etc become impact players. Which is hopefully when one of Swedish trifecta goalies becomes a top 5-10 goalie. What this group is lacking in my eyes is a real top flight offensive producer ( I see Horvat as more of a P.Bergeron type player). McDavid or Eichel would be that top end offensive player, not to mention the player we add this year (hopefully a stud winger Draisaitl, Dal Colle, Virtanen, Ritchie, Perlini). - joesmith84
Again, there's no guarantee that even with a McDavid or Eichel that we would pull off a Cup. Again, I point to the Islanders, Oilers, Buffalo (although they're getting the right idea now). To win a Cup, you need a superstar (either a D or a forward but it's better if it's a forward) surrounded by players who can preform a variety of roles in your lineup, and depth behind them to handle the injuries and fill in without missing a beat. We don't have that, and if we tank to get the 1st or 2nd overall next year, it would require gutting the team to the point where you risk installing a losing culture with the players replacing the core that's here now. I would rather do it gradually, and try and stay competitve by a re-tool and careful management of assets rather than a plunge into the basement and hope that we can overcome it in a few years with highly touted draft picks.

Amen to that. We had scoring issues before but Torts seemed to pile drive the issue into dust |

Super-star....mmmmmm debatable, I'd say star players. Boston didn't win with a super-star, but rather some star players, like Chara, and great depth. I guess it really depends on a persons subjective opinion of what a super-star is.
Building a winning Cup team is a product of drafting, trading and free agent signings. Gillis has thus far proven he's only good at the later. |

Every seems to blame Torts but lately the team is scoring with one line. The Canucks scoring have been an issue for years now. Having the proper players to me is more the reason.
Our first line has a sniper passer and a digger, and now we have success. That is why I was pushing hard for Simmonds last year even when people here were laughing.
If you go back to Sedin Sedin Burrows or Sedin Sedin Jensen ,the scoring will dry up again. |

Superstar to me is the guy who either leads the team in scoring, is the team MVP, or plays the most minutes in all situations. Examples would be a Toews, Chara, Doughty, Datsyuk, Crosby (From the most recent post 2004 lockout Cup winners)

If you had to choose between the two, who would you rather see next year: Booth or Torts? |

I don't disagree with you but that's all on the coach given that he's picking the lines. Based on the body of work over roughly 70 games, we're on pace for setting a franchise record for least goals scored in a season. And he inherited this team intact. |

The last stars we drafted were in 1999, sadly. 15 (frank)in years ago. |

Yeah but a realistic look at the talent on this team needs to happen. Aging core with no snipers and little speed is not a remedy for success. Kesler is a one man line . Daniels game went MIA. After that who are the scorers. Burrows and Higgins were the only ones close.
His same system has Burrows Sedin Jensen with 8 of the teams last 11 goals over the last 4 games.
Give him the talent and then see how he does. |

I would give Torts one more year with a better line up and see how he does. |
