Also just saw the replay on that Killorn/Ranger hit. Shouldn't be suspended IMO. Ranger turned into the boards at the last second. Players need to protect themselves. - Pixote Andolini
Yea I agree. Didn't extend his arms. I can def see how Killorn was thinking he was just going to pin him against the boards. And then wham slit second change by ranger |

are these guys allowed to have agents at this point? I understand that in NCAA football (maybe basketball, I don't know, it's all not-hockey), you can't technically have an agent until you're drafted? I may be confused, but I heard something to the effect on ESPN radio. And since these guys aren't drafted, but rather signed right out of college, how does it work? |

That's what happens when you take a player like MacDonald, overextend his minutes and play him in a role he's not best suited for. He becomes a sacrificial lamb. Now put him the right situation, with support, and all of a sudden he looks like a hell of a player. That's life as an NHL defenseman. - MJL
I agree, guy has played really well since he arrived. I hope the Flyers can resign him for a good price. I really think L.Schenn and him are a great pairing, they seem to play well with each other |

If his team makes the Frozen Four, we need to get together and make sure he has the best time ever in this city. |

"advisors"
Edit: Once they sign with an agent or agree to a contract with a team, they can no longer play NCAA hockey. |

Im pretty sure these guys have agents. And these NCAA players play in college, go undrafted, finish their degree, and then sign with whatever team they want effectively avoiding the draft.
If they get drafted its a different story but it can also end in them being free agents. ie Justin Schultz, Blake Wheeler |

if that's the case, then how does this all go down so fast, i.e. a guy getting signed really quickly after his NCAA season ends? Or is it all just a façade and they have agents and the teams are sending fancy meats and jewels? |

right, but what if they don't finish their degree? Do they not have agents helping them decide which team to sign with? |

I think they're physically slow man for man. They get into trouble when they don't move their feet more than other teams.
They have a significant amount of guys who win board battles, which offsets the speed a little bit.
They also have Couturier who plays faster than he really is because of thinks one step ahead. - PhillySportsGuy
I don't think overall that they're slow in any way. They simply play slow at times. The fastest skater in the League isn't very fast when he's not moving his feet.

Interesting. I didnt know that. - FrmRusiaWifGlov
Baseball has a rule where players are drafted out of high school then will either decide to take a certain amount or attend college. If they attend college, they are no longer property of the team who drafted them and they must attend 3 or 4 years of college (I forget).
Anyway, players need advice during negotiations with a team when they're drafted out of high school. Therefore, they use agents as "advisors". If they sign with the team, they're agents. If they decide to attend college, they are just advisors.
Its one of those things where the NCAA allows it because these kids need access to people who know what they're doing. Not everyone has some uncle who is an attorney. |
