I don't think overall that they're slow in any way. They simply play slow at times. The fastest skater in the League isn't very fast when he's not moving his feet. - MJL
I don't want to say slow, but I don't think the Flyers are a group of good skaters when compared to the rest of the league. Its not a horrible thing. Grabner may be the fastest skater in hockey and Im not pining for him to be a Flyer. |

As Bill said, Chicago is one of the best skating teams in the League. Flyers skated with them all game.

I think the latter |

I've criticized the flyers pretty frequently about how pathetically slow they appear in most games. What the last 3 games has shown me, is that they could play a faster game all along. They've been pretty incredible the last 3 games.
So i'll have to retract my previous comments and say this, "They have the potential to play as fast as any other team in the league, when they decide to show up and play fast".
I've been pretty shocked the last few games. - Flyersgod

it's not the total package by any stretch, but the key is moving that disc when you have it. It moves faster than they do. do smart, fast things with it, and it's magic what happens. |

Im saying if we held a skills competition and raced all players from around the league, the Flyers would not be one of the 15 fastest teams in the league.
That is not something thats terrible. They have many big forwards who can move when they get up to full speed, but I wouldn't call them terrific skaters.
You don't need the fastest team to win games. Even in today's NHL. |

It's amazing what the last 3 games have done around this city. People are starting to really turn on to this team. Getting that buzz. Pre playoff electricity. And it all starts with #28. |

You could see the speed of Chicago working against them last night. They are sometimes too fast. They seem to throw passes too far ahead or throw them way too hard to handle and it resulted in turnovers at least 5 or 6 times last night.
The flyers move slow enough to be able to catch a pass behind them or in their skates. They seem to glide when they skate and access the situation more instead of just flying forward. |

I think this speed thing is getting blown out of proportion. Its a positive to be a good skater, but it isn't the end all be all. If you play quickly and think the game well, you can offset a lack of speed. |

All it takes for a not so fast team to beat a fast team is disciplined hockey, being strong on the boards, and supporting the puck.
Oh look at that- that's how you beat any team.
"Fast" teams don't scare me. |

Yeah it has.
Flyers have some really fast guys out there. Read can fly. Voracek as well. Raffl takes maybe a stride or 2, like B. Schenn but they can cook. Rinaldo as well. |

Man St Louis just got burned on a high stick goal being called a good goal. At least the refs suck every where and not just against Philly. |

If you play smart, and move the puck quickly you can negate another team's speed. The Flyers have been doing that lately. They're supporting the puck and they're doing an excellent job of slowing down the opposing teams, especially in transition.
Their forechecking has been outstanding, a near perfect mix of balls to the wall and controlled aggression. More importantly, when they have had breakdowns the goalies have been largely good and they have managed to reset and get the running around under control on their own, with out the score getting out of hand or a lead being blown. |
