Yup, I knew Timonen and Hartnell came over together, and I knew Coburn arrived around the same time, I just wasn't sure of the order. I don't have a rolodex mind like some people. Friggin' straight-edgers and their healthy brain cells. - wolfhounds
You know how we do.
But yes, we got Coburn, then we acquired Marty Biron, and then we made the big moves (Briere, Smith, Lupul, Timonen, Hartnell) in the offseason. |

I think Timo is coming back next year. This team may be closer than people think. - PhillySportsGuy
Does he take a pay cut? If he is here to win a cup, then he should take a paycut so the Flyers can spend of UFAs.
I really wouldnt want to spend over 5 million. |

why on earth wouldn't he be in a position on another team to wear a C?
edit: unless you mean you don't think the Flyers would ever trade him, and with G here, he has no shot. In which case, I misunderstood your point. - FlyerGuy
No. Even if for some reason he ends up on another team he'll never elevate his game to the point where he'll be a captain I don't believe. He's a very good hockey player and seems like a terrific guy. He's just not the kind of player they make a captain. Same goes for guys like Hartnell, Vorachek, second tier players like that.
I love his game but he's a foot soldier. Slap three As on him. |

For those who missed it:
We are having a Hockeybuzz fantasy draft. The point is to have 30 posters each pick a roster including all NHL (possibly AHL) players. The rosters will be judged in some way (calm down Schenn Bros, we'll figure out exactly what it will be before the draft). We're inquiring to have our very own Bill Meltzer as one of the judges of the rosters. We have several spots open. If you want in, please PM me. |

Open market value for Timonen is $6M. The guy is a veteran #2, two-way defenseman. Any team in contention would be happy to pay him over $5M if they had a need on defense. |

I want to talk a little about the PP.
I've wanted them to replace Voracek with Vinny for a while. Teams are really overplaying Giroux and Timonen. They aren't respecting Jakes shot. I feel Vinny would be perfect in that spot because he can really one time the puck. Thats where he's scored many of his goals in his career.
Moving Jake to the second unit makes them better as well. He becomes the main distributor and has the PP run through him as the top unit runs through Giroux.
I feel that minor switch makes both units better. - PhillySportsGuy
Maybe next season, but this unit has been together for 2 years and has been the top PP units for 2 years. Keep them together. If Timonen retires that gives you the excuse to mess with it. |

I'm not sure how much more he can elevate his game ... but the guy oozes grit and leadership, imo. That's the ultimate criteria in choosing a captain. |

If Ott can wear a "C" anyone can. You dont have to be a super-star to be a good captain. |

I don't think he has the "rally the troops" mentality. I think he's a guy who can be rallied, if you know what I mean. He's the guy who can go out there and give you the goal/hit/fight/etc. that you need, but maybe not the kind of guy who can inspire others to do the same. That's the difference between him and Giroux in that category, at least to me. |

Just think it will make both units better. Our second PP unit has been pretty bad for a while now. They lack a true identity. It should be better with a shot like Streit's on it. I think Voracek would give them that distributor they need.
Considering how often Berube goes to the second unit, it wouldn't be a bad thing to share the wealth a bit. |

My fiance sent me this - apparently from the Chicago Sun tribune - Toews talking about the Flyers:
"That team played physical, they skated, they won battles and won draws," Hawks captain Jonathan Toews said. "They deserved to win it and we didn't. We had a horseshoe you know where some moments when the puck didn't end up in our net."
That horeshoe part was certainly true!

Dale Hunter is another one. God I hate Dale Hunter.
Also, I think Buffalo just threw names in a hat this season for captains. Didn't they not even have one last year? |

First unit seems to go 1:30, leaving the second unit with cursory mop-up duty.
I think being on the top-unit would get Vinny going, but I'm not sure it would necessarily make that unit any more effective. |
