What will Det do when Zetterburg and Dats retire? They have no one int the wings like that. - VANTEL
Let me see.....Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco, Landon Ferraro, Teemu Pulkkinen, Calle Jarnkrok, Adam Almquist.....
The Canucks would give their left nut for some of those guys and I didn't even touch on them all.... |

I do. If this were 2015, I wouldn't be advocating as much for #tanknation because it's supposed to be a much deeper draft. This year; the higher you pick, the better. - Chest Rockwell
Yep when you are talking about 5-6 NHL potentials only ,you need to be a bride, not a bridesmaid. |

which lends exactly to my point.... - chompsey
How so? I don't see guys like Tatar, Jurco, Sheahan as future core players otherwise Wings Fans wouldn't be tossing them around in trade proposals. They have one in Nyquist. We'll see how Mantha plays in the NHL. The other guys are solid complementary pieces, but not core players IMO.
The Canucks haven't exactly excelled in finding core players through anywhere in the draft, so the higher the odds the better. If we had the scouting/development of TB or ANA then I'd agree with your logic. |

Except that there is no chance the Canucks fall bottom 3 even if they lose every game the rest of the way....
Outside of Ekblad, Draisaitl, Reinhart and Bennett....there isn't much separating 5-15 so whats the point of tanking????? |

Even if the Canucks lose teh rest of the way, they won't be in a position to draft top 5 - sorry.... |

Very few of them will be stars. I see our prospects not far off the pace as them |

Come on Vantel, even you know better than that....Nyquist and Jurco have off the charts skill and Mantha? Who do we have even close? |

There's Ehlers and Dal Colle. Nylander is too 5 in some lists. After those 7 it's pretty wide open when you look at mocks. It's why a lot of us wanted the 7th pick, maybe 6th but that's not happening now. |

Plenty of sites have them projected to be 2nd liners at absolute best....
In comparison I don't value Gaunce as a future core piece, but he could be a nice supporting player. |

I think 5-15 is up for grabs - lots of comparable talent....Goldobin, Virtanen, Perlini, Milano, Ehlers....Dal Colle is a beast..... |

Ehlers is a step above, a few sites even have him top 5 or 6 now. Nylander is apparently one of the most talented players in this draft, only knocks are his size/softness but offensively he's projected to be a notch above those guys. |

I believe top 8 (#tanknation viewpoint, bottom 8 for #clowns) have a chance at the top pick, or at the very least top 3 pick. Even to have an 8% chance of picking Ekblad, Reinhart or Bennett would be a huge opportunity for this organization. |

Mantha is overrated because of his size and he scored a hat trick at the WJT. He was considered to be a lazy player that played offence only.
Nyquist is good but I don't put him in the elite category . Same with Jurco.

Realistically, you dont actually need a high pick to rebuild faster.....see 2003 draft as the most glaring example....... - chompsey
Agreed. You just need good drafting, which we haven't been able to do under the Gillis era, so I imagine the thinking goes "the higher the pick, the lower the chance of (frank)ing it up." |

26th place: 8.1%
25th place: 6.2%
24th place: 4.7%
23th place: 3.6%
22th place: 2.7%
21th place: 2.1%
20th place: 1.5%
19th place: 1.1%

Nyquist has the most goals on the Red wings (19) and has 35 points in 43 games in his rookie season. And a lot of that has come without playing with either Datsyuk or Zetterberg. He's a damn fine player. |

Outside of Schroeder(who looked promising and was a pick I agreed with), I don't dislike any of his first rounders. He found Corrado late and Cassels was a mid rounder who looks good so far. Hutton as well. It's his 2nd/3rd round overage strategy that looks bad and I think/hope he's learned from.
I just don't see how finishing 9th or 10th in the West benefits this team more than finishing 12th. None of us expect the players to roll over or want them to, we just think it's more beneficial to get a higher pick now that the season is pretty much done. 15 games of bad hockey doesn't kill any franchise. |

He was also on the trade list for Edler along with Tatar and a first. If they were blue chippers why are the being offered out for an above average only Dman? |

From what I gather, it was Smith, Tatar and Sheahan that was offered. I've seen that mentioned more than Nyquist. Although I'm sure Nyquist could have been had at that point.
Gillis wanted a first too on top of those 3 and Detroit said no.
Nyquist is likely untouchable now. |

Botchford was reporting management sees 1&2, 3-8 then the rest. Finishing top 8 is the priority.
Its now being reported Allen is going to mull the offer over the weekend.
