Outside of Schroeder(who looked promising and was a pick I agreed with), I don't dislike any of his first rounders. He found Corrado late and Cassels was a mid rounder who looks good so far. Hutton as well. It's his 2nd/3rd round overage strategy that looks bad and I think/hope he's learned from.

I just don't see how finishing 9th or 10th in the West benefits this team more than finishing 12th. None of us expect the players to roll over or want them to, we just think it's more beneficial to get a higher pick now that the season is pretty much done. 15 games of bad hockey doesn't kill any franchise.

Gillis' draft strategy seemed to be: pick the highest ranked guy by NHL Central Scouting that's fallen into your lap. Shroeder fell, as did Gaunce, as did Shinkaruk. I'm not saying that strategy should never be applied (Cam Fowler fell nicely to ANA) but Gillis seems to pitch a tent for these tumblers.

I agree that finishing 9-12 makes little difference in this draft. I would be up for trading a key asset plus our pick to move up into the top 3 in this draft, because elite assets are hard to come by via trade or FA. That said all of our assets of value have NTCs so asking them to waive to BUF, EDM, or FLO may be a tall order.

Botchford was reporting management sees 1&2, 3-8 then the rest. Finishing top 8 is the priority.

Its now being reported Allen is going to mull the offer over the weekend.

Top 8 I can live with, just don't fall any further.

I would rather slam my junk in a McLaren P1 door and have it accelerate away as fast as it can, than listen to Nickelback.

That's speculation though. Johansen was deemed untouchable ,but was rumoured offered up for Kesler before Kes nixed the deal.

Honestly I'm a fan of trading Tanev. He's going to get expensive this year. He's good and young but if Corrado and Hutton work out we'll be fine for the next few years. I'd look at packaging Tanev and Guance for a pick.

If they traded Kes + Edler at/before picks are made they could package the assets they get in return for top end draft picks. Wouldn't that be awesome. Ek had it floating around that Buffalo wants more NHL ready prospects....

Seriously guys we need this on the E scale or its just not legit. If the speculation is e2 and the rumor is e3 then we have a clear winner

Bro, this is Mike Gillis we're talking about. Any one trade is like giving labor and it takes him at least 9 months before he can make another.

Well he was on the floor of the draft and heard the talks between the GMs . He seen the leafs offered Kadri Gardiner (I think) and a first. And he heard Lu say no .he also seen Lu say no to CBJs for Johansen.

Gotta say, this all sounds like rampant speculation. Teams, especially private ones like the Canucks, don't usually have these conversations in plain view with the press hanging around, unless Botch was wearing camouflage or came in from the ceiling like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible.

Has he actually said in any of his articles, "I overheard Luongo say this or Gillis get offered that?"

If you can package to get a top 2 pick you wouldn't do it? I would only trade tanev for another young asset. Not a 1 for 1 kind of deal. A package where its Tanev + whatever for a premier player/asset. If not keep him.

If the press didn't have inside scoops or passage then it is just like me or you her talking . They are given access to let others know of events and happenings.

He said it on the 1040 in his usual high pitched voices on the bro jake. Morning show. His exact words was" I was there at the draft . I seen it with my own eyes. I seen the offers on the table and Lu turned them down, he thought he could get it done with FLa. " then he went on to name the players involved.

I believe these came out after Dreger and co were killing Gillis in the media over not trading Lou... Just like Dreger this year crapping on the Lou to Florida deal.... Well Toronto offered this a year ago BS that he spews. Botch has made it clear that Burke was serious about making a pitch for Lou but he wouldn't consider a trade to the leafs because he thought Florida was going to make a push...

There were a few of those NCAA UFAs that Bob Mac mentioned were highly touted, at least by NCAA standards. There was a brother duo as well that I think TB had the inside track on.

At this point, with our track record on picking prospects, we should be bugging the TB offices and chasing every player they're interested in.
