whoever they use to fill in for Downie will be getting a lot less minutes a game, the 12th forward getting 5 minutes or less
Berube will shorten the bench, and key guys will be asked to play more minutes
I think it will catch up to them if Downie misses a bunch of games - Marc D

The flyers just really don't have anyone to bring up. Can Gustaffson play on the fourth line? |

They made do yesterday with 11 forwards for the entire game. They can probably figure out a way to get it done with someone else as the 12th.

Early in the year, when Mason was red hot, there was a lot said about his attitude in game. I think it was described as breaking each game into small portions, and focusing just on the next segment, regardless of how the previous play ended up.
I wonder if Berube and the team absorbed this mentality from him, in regards to making and resetting momentum. They've done a great job of not letting setbacks or breakdowns break them in game lately. |

Still think they should give McGinn a prolonged look with the big club. He isn't the best player in the world, but I don't have many complaints about the kid.
Works hard, stands up for team mates, can score some goals and doesn't hurt the team all that much.
It drives me crazy to think everytime he's called up he scores a few goals and than is sent back down to make room for Rosehill etc. |

They almost have to bring up someone who can play 12 minutes a night.
The team started rolling when Raffl went to the fourth line so they could actually play them 8-10 minutes per night
I have no problems with Raffl being on the third line, but we know how this story ends if we play the fourth line 3 or 4 minutes -- it doesn't work well for us |

Is that Scott Laughton's music?! |

Although I agree the Flyers played very well yesterday and deserved the win and Mason was again stellar, The Flyers had some luck on their side with St Louis hitting 3 posts in the 3rd period in about a 10 minute span. On the other hand, the Flyers are proving they can compete with the "big boys" and are becoming a serious threat to anyone they may face in the playoffs. With maybe Boston being the exception. |

Understood.
Not quite sure how I feel about that Berglund hit on Downie. Sure, Downie was looking back to see what was happening with the puck he lost and left himself vulnerable, but on the other hand, it seemed like Berglund kinda dropped his shoulder a bit as he was approaching for the hit.

Exactly -- you give everybody in the lineup more rest, which makes them all fresher and more mentally sharp as the shifts/periods/games stack up
I don't care who they bring up, McGinn, Holmstrom, VandeVelde, whoever
Just don't try to outsmart yourself by not doing it |

I think it's a no brainer that Scotty L gets 4th line time once his season ends. Problem is, Oshawa is amazing.
Until then, I feel like it's going to be Vandevelde. Interesting name brought up last night- Noebels? |
