I hate to tell you, my small legged, big headed canine friend, but Steve Ott talks out of his ass.

Yeah, that was odd...but hockey players and baseball players do tend to spit a lot... I'm guessing Ott was working on a new technique and hasn't quite nailed it down yet. |

I think it's a no brainer that Scotty L gets 4th line time once his season ends. Problem is, Oshawa is amazing.
Until then, I feel like it's going to be Vandevelde. Interesting name brought up last night- Noebels? - Giroux_Is_God
He's been a bottom 6 player for the Phantoms. Im not sure if he'd help the 4th line much.
McGinn is a -20 with the Phantoms. VDV is a +1. VDV may just be the better fit for a team simply looking for a defense first forward.
There really are no good options. Their best AHL forwards are more offensive and wouldn't fit on a line with Couts and Read very well. |

Bump Raffl up to 3rd line and call up one of those speedy offensive guys in the AHL to give the 4th line a little pop?
There's a lot of options, but the problem is, none of them should be picked |

also with this whole Downie thing...
I think even if he didn't get crunched last game, Raffl needs to get more minutes. I'm going to go so far as to say he's been dynamic in the last 5+ games. Kid is a mule with the puck, his possession game is great, his board play is great, and he's defensively responsible.
I think a player like that fits well with Read and Coots. I really think that line could be money.
But then there's the whole 4 minutes per game 4th line, which works well for exactly nobody. |

I've never been opposed to putting a guy like McGinn on the 4th line. The Flyers have been unwilling to do so. |

So Raffl is signed now up to when he will become a UFA. I'm thinking his agent was OK with a two yr deal taking him to UFA because if he keeps playing well he could command more money.
Bill, I am looking forward to your take on Macdonald's next deal. He is going to be UFA. The Flyers are using him on what could be considered the third pair on D and second PP. IMO he was not suited for top pair minutes he was getting on the Island. He is probably somewhere in between, 2nd pair guy who does a lot of the little things well.
I hope they reach a reasonable deal with him. Letting him walk away sets the team back. Much like what happened with Matt Carle. But what is reasonable for a player like him?
I remember when there was some discussion about J Bo and you weren't in favor of him because IIRC, the value was not there. J Bo does everything pretty well, but maybe is not a true number one guy. His deal is for 5.4M/yr. How would you feel if the Flyers have to pay AMac over $5 per season? Is that fair value for a very good but not a true top pair guy who is UFA? |

It just sucks that they don't have a good 4th line center. Hall can win face-offs and play well positionally, but he is very slow and offers very little in terms of offense or puck possession.
I'm not asking for some stud 4th liner, but it would be nice to put out a line that can break even against other 4th lines. Without Raffl, our 4th line is incapable of doing that. |

I think Jbo was making over $6M when he became available via trade. I think he signed an extension with St. Louis, which lowered his cap hit.
If MacDonald wants over $5M, I think the team has to take a hard look at Niskanen. He's similar to MacDonald, but provides a little more offense. |

I don't think so. He's 26th in GAA, 21st in save% and 6th in wins. I know those stats are more of a product of team play, but there are other goalies who have been very good all season long.
I'm thinking guys like Bishop and Rask will get much more consideration.
I'm still very happy with Mason's play though. |
