Flyers have 54.6m used up. Cap next year is 68mil, at least.
We have
Hart Giroux Voracek
Vinny (Schenn) Simmonds
Raffl Couturier Read
(?) (?) Rinaldo
Rosehill
(?) Coburn
Streit Grossman
(MacDonald) Schenn
(Gustafsson)
That leaves 13.4mil to sign Schenn, Gustafsson, 2 Dmen and 2 fourth line players and a backup goalie.
Schenn gets 2~2.5. So that leaves 11 mil. 900k to gustafsson for the QO, down to 10 mil. MacDonald makes 4.5mil and were down to 5.5mil to sign a top pair dman 2 fourth liners and a backup goalie? I don't see how this is going to work out very well. |

It's gonna be tight. If timonen resigns for cheaper than 6 freaking million it would help! |

Thats probably the best option. They could use Laughton after his season ends, but if they play him for more than 9s total games (reg season & Playoff) they burn off a year of his ELC and I really would hate to do that.
I really can't think of any better options that don't leave the 4th line badly weakened. I would not want to go into a key game or a playoff game with VDV, Rosehill or Newbury skating on the 4th line. The only other option would be to dress 7 D and use Gus some with Grossmann and spot Streit on the 4th line, but I really don't like that much either. - BiggE

They do. The Rangers had to burn a year off of Kreider's ELC for his use in the playoffs. |

With 5.5mil available he would have to sign for less than 6mil. If the cap raises up near the 70mil mark the flyers would be in a lot better shape. 7.5mil to sign timonen for 5m and have 2.5 left for 2 fourth liners for 750k a piece and a backup for 1mil. |

Laughton will be on the team as well. They can always place him in the AHL on the first day of the season, LTIR Pronger then bring Laughton back up before the first game.
They can do things like trade Grossmann or Schenn if Timonen re-signs. Or they can have Timonen wait to sign with the team until they can put Pronger on LTIR. |

I think the Gus ship has sailed for this team. They may qualify him, only to trade him. If the organization thought highly of him, he would have played in front of Mez, who was traded and subsequently replaced by MacDonald.
Unless Morin completely bombs in training camp, I expect him to get a look early in the season to see if he belongs. He has such a physical advantage over other players in junior, it would be more beneficial to be sent to the AHL, which unfortunately he isn't eligible to play.
IMHO, the organization will have an open door for Kimmo to return if he wants. And yes he will be paid between $5.5-$6 million.

Hey it ain't verbal.
Just say it. Steve Ott, at times, has dingleberries coming out of his mouth.
It's a problem that really needs to be addressed. Seems like he's very self conscious. |

not so sure about the Gus ship sailing
if Kimmo resigns, and they bring back Amac, then they would likely need to trade one of LSchenn/Grossmann.
that opens a spot for Gus
Kimmo/Coburn
Amac/Streit
LSchenn or G-NN/Gus
If they don't bring back Kimmo, there still could be a spot for Gus
at 1M he is a viable option for the 6th/7th spot next year
he could be traded too, not sure how much value he has |

So for clarification, if Laughton comes up and plays after his Junior season is over, the Flyers will have to exercise his ELC, since he completed his "9" (I know it was technically 5 but whatever) game tryout? |

That 54.6mil is not including Pronger's salary. |

I think the writing is on the wall for Gus. I wouldn't be shocked to see Gill get the call if one of the top 6 goes down. For whatever reason, the fans value Gus more then the organization.

Then Kimmo may need to offer a discount or Schenn or Grossmann could be gone. I'm guessing Grossmann because of age and salary.
There is an outside chance Alt may be ready to assume a top 6 role. He's 23 and should be knocking on the door soon. |

I don't think Gus goes anywhere. Who does Gus replace in the current lineup? He's stuck in a rough spot. Similar situation in Boston as well. |

Yes, but rookies that came up during the lockout shortened year last year only get 5. Laughton was one of them. |
