If Pittsburgh keeps playing so well the Flyers might be able to pull into first place in the division |

We need him to complete our set of Isles Defenders - FrmRusiaWifGlov
We'll wait a few years and grab Pulock too.

If they still lose the game in regulation, I don't honestly care how many they get. - ob18
i only care because i think it reflects the nhl's never-ending hard-on for thr flyers. it would be nice to get a properly officiated game on a regular basis let alone the benefit of the calls on home ice, as some teams "seem" to get |

Honestly, I don't think such a thing exists. Fans of every team complain about the officiating and think that they're team has gotten screwed. NHL officiating is just inconsistent. And it's the same for every team.

This is a hilariously ironic way to put it
True nonetheless, but I do think the Flyers get the poop end of the stick a little more often than other teams. To put it another way, it seems like the Flyers never get the benefit of the doubt. How many times has Hartnell gotten called for a chicken poop goalie interference penalty? |

if that were the case than teams would tend to cycle around in terms of calls against, but that isn't the way it works. the flyers are consistently at the top of the list and new jersey is frequently near the bottom of the list of calls against. given the post lock-out emphasis on restraining penalties and the devils' style of play you would think they' be at risk for more calls against, but it didn't happen |

Flyers have a large group of guys with reputations for taking undisciplined penalties.
I thought the high sticking penalty called on Downie against the Devils embodied how the referees feel about certain players.
If the Flyers are winning and have had more power plays, they will call Downie for breathing on a player. |

The Flyers are consistently near the top of the list in calls against, because they lack discipline and take a lot of penalties. And the Devils are disciplined. Style of play really has nothing to do with it. There is no hard on or conspiracy theory against the Flyers.

I wish we could improve that just a little. Even with the bad officiating on Saturday it was nerve wracking having them take so many stupid ones. I wish we were middle of the pack |

it also works the other way when they are getting smoked (on the scoreboard and calls) the refs give them some meaningless pp's at the end of a game so it looks more even than it really is |

Yeah. I hate how officials feel the need to even things out and give the team behind some calls. Everyone knows they do this. Even Jim Jackson says "Flyers need to keep playing, they should have some calls heading their way at some point."
I just think reputation means so much in hockey. Two players get into it and the assumption is that Downie started the fight or Rinaldo started the fight.
The problem for the Flyers is that they have too many of these players. Guys like Hartnell, Rinaldo and Downie will never get the benefit of the doubt on any call. The Devils don't seem to have a ton of guys like that. |
