I said Hall because I think if somebody got that kid out of that horrible situation and into a positive atmosphere, he'd put up 50 goals and look dominant in doing so
It's tragic, what's going on up in Edmonton - AllInForFlyers
I think part of the reason he's taken for granted is his being a 1st-overall -- it's just expected of him. Meanwhile, people talk of Eberle in the same breath, which is completely unwarranted. |

He really has. Boston is pretty deep at forward aren't they? - PhillySportsGuy
Yeah -- that really was a good trade for them, even though Tyler Seguin is the best player in the trade, that doesn't mean that Boston didn't get some really quality assets back
They truly did -- and while Jarome Iginla's a shadow of himself from his prime years, damn if he hasn't popped 28 goals for them this year, looking like a mortal lock for 30-plus

I know Ovechkin has some shortcomings defensively and such, but how could you have a guy as # 1 overrated that has 417 career goals at the age of 28? - PLindbergh31
He has the second worst +/- in the league. Its not like he's on some terrible team either. |

Jaromir Jagr is so overrated. I mean, he has 23 goals, but people act like he's some scoring champion or something. |

Krejci and Bergeron are #1 and #2 in +/- yet they don't even play together. It just shows you how strong they are down the middle.
The line of Lucic-Krejci-Iginla has been the best in hockey during certain stretches. |

But is that really "overrated?" Most people who follow hockey know that his play away from the puck is between very bad and atrocious. I think he's viewed as a guy who will score your 45-50 goals a year and that's about it. So, in that sense, he's not really overrated to me. |

That baffles me. Hall is CLEARLY the best player on that team, and it's not even close.
Eberle's a good player, and someone who I think would be interesting on a line with Baby Schenn or Sean Couturier. But in no way do I think he is a difference-maker like Hall, or someone who you give up a ton of assets for in trade.
Eberle's a guy you add to change your mix, add skill, not build around, that's for sure.

Some of that is earned, and some misleading. It is concerning, but, it's not as simple as pointing at +/- |

I will say two things for Eberle. 1) He's fairly clutch. 2) He may not score a ton, but when he does, he's got some flash.
Not really an argument for or against him, but he's fun to watch. |

Agreed. He was overrated at one point, maybe. Ever since that slow patch he had, though, he's been questioned left and right. I might even go so far as to call him underrated. |

There are still people in this very thread who compare him to Crosby and put him in the best player in the world conversation. |

I have a hate bias for him as I hate players who can only contribute offensively. |

Well that's just pure bias and failure to grasp the game of hockey past "CROSBY SUCKS" and "OVECHKIN SCORES A LOT!"
On a similar level, sadly, I'm preparing for a lot of people to boo Richards ("He left us!") and "SHOOOOT!" |

If someone is going to argue Ovechkin being overrated it's a fairly silly argument. He averages about 1.23 points per game for his career. |

But he's viewed as one of the most complete players in the game.

Agreed -- sometimes, what I type comes off as a bit too strong, perhaps. He is a good player, and again, I truly would be curious to see how he'd be with a couple of the Flyers' centers.
