Back to Ovechkin. In MY opinion he is overrated which is why I had him on my list. There's no denying he is a top goal scorer... but that is about it. When i think of a great, complete hockey player or underrated players, the Ovechkin types are not one of them.
You're paying him huge money to score goals and that's all he can do really. I'd rather spend half of that money and get a guy who can be a play maker, back check, and score 20 goals a season and be a team player.
Again, my opinion, just thought I'd give my 2 cents. - Streit2ThePoint
Ovechkin has a career 12.3% shooting percentage. For an "elite sniper" that is low. He leads the league in shots almost every year. The guy has an incredible release but you can't say he is a "sniper" because he has a heavy shot. He literally just skates straight forward and shoots or stand in one spot and shoots the puck. A lot.
Make what you want of that but I'm pretty sure Giroux could match his numbers if he stood in one spot and had Backstrom feed him pucks all day. |

Ovi isn't fed pucks so much as he carries it in on his own and takes the shot. He's one of the biggest puck hogs out there. That's one reason why his percentage is a bit low. |

im not exactly the most ardent OV defender. but if theres one thing im not going to disparage him for, its his shot.
i ridicule A LOT of his game. but if it was that easy to just remain stationary and still snipe 50 goals a year. other players would do it. |

I think Ovechkin does more then just that offensively. He can score from anywhere in the offensive zone. And stating that Giroux could match his goal scoring numbers if he stood in one spot and was fed by Backstrom, is an exaggeration. Giroux is not, and never will be the goal scorer that Ovechkin is under any circumstances.

I know he has an incredible release, but I'm talking about accuracy. 12.3% is just every day run of the mill shooting %. When I think of a sniper you would think of a guy like stamkos with a career 17.5% or crosby with a career 14.9% or toews at 15.2% or vanek at 14.8%. |

Don't sleep on Nic's Roast beef on 20th and Jackson in SP. So good. My brother lives around the corner from there so I get a sammich everytime I trek down south for a visit. |

Joe Sakic and Paul Kariya both had 50-goal seasons with shooting percentage below 10% for the year. They were elite snipers, too. All it meant was they usually got the puck on the net, and shot a lot.

true, but i think a lot of it just stems from OVs tendency to fire from everywhere and anywhere. some of his shots arent always in the highest percentage areas. |

as long as that jar will be subsequently (does that count) entered into the aforementioned account, i have no problem with this. |

12-2-1 in the past 15 games, the Flyers are riding high on their scoring, with seven players tallying at least nine points in 11 games since the Olympics (led by Claude Giroux's 17), but that goaltending keeps that question mark hovering.
TSN has them 13th in the league in terms of power rankings. |

That's true. Ovechkin could be more selective with his shots and up that percentage. |
