See, I kinda disagree with that.
Yeah, you pay Doughty and Kopitar. Totally fine.
But you took on Richards and Carter. Granted, that got you a Cup, so that's a mitigator. But you still took on 8-10 years of term, for both.
But no one forced you to give Brown eight years, and the kicker is extending Quick until 2023!
Again: I get it. You're paying your guys.
But at the same time...those commitments are staggering, in term. Richards and Brown are now bottom six forwards. What in the world are you going to do when Carter joins them and Quick's a backup? - AllInForFlyers
In terms of icetime, both players are top 6 forwards for the Kings.

Hurricanes announce six-year, $29M extension for Justin Faulk
This is good news.... No way MacDonald gets anything close to 5 million now. - PLindbergh31
Faulk was an RFA. Apples and Oranges. |

Our PK is pretty good now. They aren't as much a threat to score short handed though. I think Read has 4 SHG, which is one behind the leader. Not much after that.
Carter and Richards were both good at creating odd man rushes. I remember that being a large part of their John Stevens offense. - PhillySportsGuy
I am not complaining about PK now. As many penalties as this team takes, if our PK sucked we wouldn't be close to a playoff spot. I just miss that other aspect of the PK that other PP units had to respect. It made it harder for the D-man to pinch in because Richie and Carter were so good at taking the puck the other way for an odd-man rush. Even at 5 on 3. |

He was gonna get something in that area anyway. If he gets an AAV lower than 5.25, I'll be surprised.

Not really. Faulk is a better player regardless of status. Just because someone is a UFA doesn't mean you have to meet their asking price. |

I don't know if you've ever negotiated before, but having the ability to accept another offer is usually pretty helpful. I'm not sure another team was going to be willing to offer $5M per year to Faulk while also giving up multiple 1st round picks. |

If MacDonald reaches UFA status how many offers north of 5 million do you think he's going to receive? |

I don't know, but teams won't be giving up 2 first round picks to get him. That will help a little with negotiations. |

In the 'just for kicks' dept, how sweet would it be to have the Ashbee and Dupre awards next year go to...

Not a bad idea. The Rangers game is more important. I would rather have Mason for the bigger game. - PhillySportsGuy
I agree and I also thought that Emery played extremely well in the latter part of his last start. |

I thought this year's cap increase did not reflect the new TV deal signed by Canada - PhillySportsGuy
It doesn't. Even with a somewhat weakened Canadian dollar, the cap ceiling for 15-16 should be at least 75 million, and perhaps close to 80 |

Yes but he signed a contract well into his UFA years. This isn't a typical RFA contract. It does establish a market value. If he was not getting paid MV than he would not have signed for 6 years. |

He did play well. It will be a tough game. He can't allow a weak goal because it may end up being the only goal of the game. Against Chicago, you knew they'd have their chances to even things up. |
