Just me, but it seems if there was ever any white between the puck and the line it wouldn't have hit a post and come out, but stayed in. Whatever though, agree to disagree. Not even sure we saw the same replays, so who knows.
- PancakesPenner

Yup, it was an odd play and bounce, no doubt. Either way, solid win for the Kings.

I only saw the overhead on nhl.com there's a nice clip of it.

Pause it at :37 and tell me whether it's in or out

Did you guys not get the same replays we got here in California? We had one that clearly showed it going off the right, then the crossbar, then the left. It was overhead.

We saw the same replay. he is just being difficult.

Since the crossbar is directly about the line, and the same width, I would have to see some space between the puck and the back of the crossbar at some point to say it was a goal. Since the whole time I can see the puck peeking out below the front of the crossbar, I say it was the right call. Close, but no goal.

this is where my idea for a translucent crossbar would come in handy.

of course you can see the puck peeking out below the crossbar ... you're looking at the crossbar from an angle closer to center ice. You might not see it if looking straight down at the crossbar.

edit: in any event, this isn't why the Flyers lost. The 1st 40 minutes is.

Just install a chip inside every NHL puck in the absolute center. Once it crosses the goal line it'll send a signal.

yeah, I talked about that before with someone ... not a bad idea.

at the very least they should have small cameras in the crossbar and posts. There's cameras in everything nowadays, anyway. Hell, put a chip AND a camera inside the puck.

Except that means it would send a signal even when the whole puck isn't across the line??

I'd say the first 55 minutes. If they play with the tenacity of the last 5 minutes they win that game. Then again that's a tough tempo to kept for 6o minutes. Maybe just sour grapes because game just felt like Philly just didn't seem to push enough for long stretches. Maybe just credit to kings.

Yeah so you do some math to figure at what distance the center of the puck is when the entire puck crosses the line. Seriously it's not that difficult.

EDIT: also, who's gonna guarantee that the puck is flat? That distance will change as the flips on edge, etc

Maybe put a second line behind the goal line, just far back enough that the puck would only touch it if it's completely across the goal line?

At which point you install sensors just inside the line. Pretty sure they've got tech now that can differentiate between what position the puck is and at what angle.
