That wasn't the comparison. At all.

It was clear what I said: ANY stat, any stat at all, is simply math, some of which can be predictive, some of which are snapshots in time, but all requiring context.

Crime stats. Poverty stats. Hockey stats. ANY STAT.

Advanced stats. Plus/minus. Ice time. Whatever stat anybody tosses out requires context for it to mean anything!

How do you guys live, with just the leap to reduce any conversation to the simplest component possible?

Einstein would tell you the entire universe could be described in a mathmetical equasion. You can define anything with math. Whether is the amount of atoms that make up an element, and the addition of elements to make compounds...

But the truth is, you can describe a rose's perfection in a mathmetical equasion, but all you really have to do is look at it, smell it... experience it to know that.

Yesterday, people were going on and on about Alex Ovechkin's plus/minus -- which isn't an advanced stat.

And yet, some people have no problem interpreting that stat and making a determination about what type of player he is.

We do it all the time! That was my point! We interpret stats and numbers ALL THE TIME and make determinations about what we think we're seeing! It's not just advanced stats!
