I think most hockey people would rather have Backstrom than Ovechkin |

Man...again. I get it. The dude could be more aware defensively. And yeah, if they don't make it, Washington's gonna have to do some soul searching.
But if they make it to the playoffs and that dude pops 60 goals and is the most lethal scorer in hockey on the league's best PP, and that's how they got there...I don't get how that makes that dude a bad player.
That's beyond me. It's just beyond me.

Who wouldn't. The object of the sport is putting the rubber disc in the net. He does it better than anyone. That's good enough for me. |

Reimer isn't opening the bench door fast enough, and the players are getting frustrated. His level of incompetence is otherworldly. |

He's a great player. There are some things about his game I don't like, but when you score with the regularity he does, you have to look past that stuff. |

I thought the key was to put the disc into the other team's net more often than they put it in your net. Maybe Im wrong. |

I could be wrong, but the team that scores the most usually wins the game. Not always, but usually. |

I haven't read anyone state that he is a bad player. Ovechkin along with Stamkos are heads above anyone else in the NHL as goal scorers. Ovechkin is one of the best goal scorers ever to play the game. Now with that being said, obviously, there is more to the game. Especially in the playoffs. And against top teams like Boston in the East. I think they can shut down a player like Ovechkin, and take advantage of weaknesses in his game, and in the Caps game overall. But Boston can do that to a lot of teams. I think the only thing that has been said is that if Ovechkin would dedicate more to becoming a better all around player, not only would he be better, but so would Washington. And that's not foolish talk at all. |

Fair enough -- I overstated by saying people said he was a "bad player." My overstatement.
I don't know how to equate everyone's definition of better -- I can only gauge the Caps off what I see. I see them infrequently, but they rely on the PP when I do.
Could they do it differently? Maybe. But I don't know that. I don't follow them closely enough to know whether Ovechkin sacrificing offense for defense would have them winning more games. If I watched them more often, I'd probably have a better feel.

Well he's scored 26 ES goals to 20 PP goals. But no question, stay out of the box against Washington. |

Depends on style of play, and the other guys I'd have on the roster.
But if those were the two best players available in a draft, I'd pick Ovechkin -- for the simple fact that, as has been noted, you can't win a game 0-0.
