I'm sorry, I can't go with you there. Giroux does not shoot the puck anywhere near as well as Ovechkin does.

Can't disagree with you here, but you have to admit G's one timer from the circle is FILTHY

God bless Troy Brouwer and Joel Ward, but scoring 20-plus against third pairs isn't quite the same as what Ovechkin's getting every night
- AllInForFlyers

No one is going to match 50 goals on that team. With Bergeron, they wouldn't need as many goals. It would be a group effort to get more goals. There would be more opportunity for other players to play on the top line and top PP unit.

Apples and oranges. Couts isnt in Bergerons class and Stamkos is better than Ovechkin.
- PhillySportsGuy

You mean Couturier isn't a future Selke contender. I was told he was. Damn lies.

Bergeron was a real shutdown Center in the Finals last year. I think his lung shutdown.

Maybe they haven't filed the paperwork on the entry deal yet but just the tryout deal?

You know he put up 106pts and 52-goals as a 20-year-old saddled with Zubrus and Chris Clark, right?
- Tomahawk

Nonsense!

Clearly the majority of his prowess is due to Backstrom's amazing passing.

12.1% shooting% for Giroux
12.3% for OV

Same accuracy. He clearly has a blast from the circle. He has a vicious backhander (See blue jackets 5-4 flyers win). He has an excellent wrist shot (see OT game winner the other night). He has well above average shot, just slightly below OV.

I dunno, when Backstrom got hurt in 2011 -12 Ovechkin's numbers plummeted.

When he connects for sure. But Ovechkin and Stamkos are in a class all their own in shooting the puck.

Yes. Ovechkin is the same player as he was at 20. His game is exactly the same. Those end to end rushes with the great strength, power and skill happen every other game theses days

They're looking good, but still their D is a little weak to me. Let's see how they're gonna deal with tougher teams.

Im thinking Stollie is gonna have to stand on his head.

It's not just about shooting percentage. Giroux shoots the puck well, but not as well as Ovechkin.

When teams prepare for Washington, who do you think their primary focus is on? It has been, and always will be Ovechkin. He used to run roughshod over the league, and then there was an adjustment period. Teams started figuring out how to play against him, how to shut him down.

You have to remember, he not only faces the opposing shutdown line, but the team's top defensive pairing as well. I'm sure they get drilled with "don't let OV beat us, don't let it happen."

Sure, he's not defensively responsible at times, but you have to give him credit for making adjustments himself, and his continual goal-scoring dominance.

After last night, the argument should be:

Mike Trout or Steven Stamkos?

No idea.

Im just wondering when he's gonna start playing. It'd be nice if the phantoms wouldn't suck and they could get into the playoffs one of these days so these guys finish their CHL or Euro seasons could get more games in the AHL.

Actually the only teams that can shut down the PP for Washington are the teams that figure out how to keep the puck out of Backstrom's possession.

When the Flyers take the Rangers to the woodshed tomorrow, the Caps will just be closer to a first-round match-up with Philadelphia. Would be the optimal situation, in my opinion.

The Flyers were quoted earlier this year as saying Backstrom was the key to shutting down the Caps.

I have not seen any details of Haag's deal.
