Just feel like I never see him on the PP. Maybe cause the second unit stinks or something... - Flyersgod
That has a lot to do with it. Honestly, he doesn't seem like a PP-type guy. More of a transition player who can get the puck up ice, but not someone who has a great shot or is good at distributing it in closer quarters. I could be wrong, but I'm not seeing it. |

I was in the midst of posting a response to his comments about "us" Philly fans... and booing previous players until my browser closed.
Its kind of a double standard.
Jagr won two cups in Pitt, multiple scoring titles, Art Ross, Hart Trophy.
Jagr was traded also, and upon his return:
From another site:
“How, in a situation like that, can there be so much bad attitude and anger from those people? I don’t get it.” Jagr said. “What kind of world are we in right now? That’s (bleeping) scary. We should be in a world with a lot of love. Instead there’s one guy, who is 40 years old, who is almost done, and he’s causing all that (animosity) over hockey? My brain just doesn’t understand that.”
“When I left Pittsburgh I was traded,” Jagr said. “The first time I came back with Washington everybody booed me so bad. But I was traded. I didn’t leave. But they are going to hate me anyway. They’ve hated me for seven years. Then, when there is a chance that I am going to go back there, all of the sudden they switch for one or two months? Then I don’t go, and they go back to hating me, but even more than before. I don’t get it. I don’t know what kind of world we’re living in. I don’t get it.”
Richards was well received his first time back, but when the puck dropped he wore an enemy uniform.
Also, as far as reasons why people might boo Carter. Who knows.. Justin Williams might have said it best after the game with:
"I know he wanted this game bad. He played well. He used his wheels well. He did what he was capable of."
A lot of people feel (and they have every right to) that Carter didn't put forth the same level of effort on a day in day out basis as the rest of the team. Other people feel he left management no choice but to trade him. They didn't see him always play well (understandable), or always use his wheels when he could have, or "want the game bad" enough, or simple always do what he was capable of.
I for one don't feel like I need to love every player that wears the orange and black uniform just because they are in the uniform. I expect certain things while they wear that uniform. Everyone says hockey is a business.. well we fans are the customers and when some fans spend $100 night in and night out, they expect certain players who make $75,000 a game to give a consistent "effort" every night. Jeff Carter is his own product, and the customers here let him know they we're happy with the quality. In reality, who knows.
Columbus booed him also... maybe they should have had open arms.
I wasn't a fan of Carter while he donned a Flyers Jersey. I don't have to be unconditionally content with my teams or the players that play for them. I expect certain things from a player, a coach, management and ownership.
Also, maybe cities do that just to heckle a player who used to play for you.. maybe its all just for entertainment, just like the sport is (By the way, I'm not a "booer", but I do try to understand it.
----------
I like the way Stayinthef'innet comes in here to talk hockey and has respect for the Flyers as a team, but his comments about the Flyers fan base as a whole (minus the "select guys" in here) were insulting. Just watch what you say when you speak about the majority of a fan base and everyone gets along

It can show which players or teams got lucky though. Take Voracek for example. His shooting percentage was very high. Much higher than any other year. He got some puck luck last year and it made him a point per game player.
Voracek isn't a worse player this year because he's not scoring at the same pace. He's just scoring at his normal rate again.
Shooting percentage is hardly an advanced stat, but its more than goals, assists, points and +/- - PhillySportsGuy
I swore I wasn't going to get into this again, but that's it exactly.
The phrase "regress to the mean" is not some mystical wizardry meant to befuddle the populace.
What it does is also help you to avoid horrific, long-term contracts based off unsustainable "career" years or hot stretches.
I am amazed at how this board just resents the very mention of this stuff -- we use predictors in every single aspect of life.
For example: You think about moving. Do you move into the neighborhood with high crime rates? Do you move into the neighborhood with schools that are rated poorly?
Of course you don't, if you have a choice.
We don't use just "the eyeball test" in any aspect of our daily lives. We use predictors and trends everywhere. |

Without quoting the enitre thing... I agree with a lot of what you said, though I felt bad for Carter. I think he deserved a cheer before the Boo's rained down.
And your right about the Pens poster. I like his posts most of the time, but whenever he generalizes about Flyers fans, its pisses me off. Like there arent the same types of fans in every city. Believe me I know. Where I live its 60% pens fans, 30% Flyers, and 10% Caps. And believe me, 10 years ago it was 75% Flyers 15% Pens, and 10% Caps. If you take my meaning about "generalized" Pens fans. |

Ive never been a guy who boos, but I don't frown upon it. I just felt booing Richards and Carter came off as petty and jealous. It seems like there is more hatred because these guys went on to win a cup. Its a trade that worked out for both sides.
I liked Carter and I loved Richards. I view their time here very favorably. Those two, Timonen and Coburn are the primary reasons this team turned things around so quickly.
Seeing the fans boo them makes me even more upset with our media. The way they handled everything was a disgrace. Accusations of players sleeping with other player's wives? What the (frank) is wrong with them. These are young men in their early 20s. I'm 26 and I'm far from mature enough to handle the rigors of being an NHL star in a high profile city.
(frank) the flyers writers (except Bill). They vilified these guys for being destructive teammates and now the majority of the fans are booing players they should love. |

Heck I'd boo Carcillo if he came back to play for the Flyers, I just don't like the little piece of poop. Just cause a guy plays for my fave team doesn't mean I have to like him.
I booed Doug Crossman cause I thought he didn't give his all, I loudly booed a stiff llike Alex Daigle cause he didn't ever seem to give a damn and I booed Billy Tibbets cause he was a complete and total piece of crap.
When it comes to former players, if I liked the guy I'l politely clap when he first hits the ice and if I didn't like him I'll boo him. However I will always save the loudest boos for opposing players I hate like Neal, Crosby, Ott and Carcillo

I don't boo -- I find the energy used to be wasted.
I try to understand it, because I understand the base premise: Liked player leaves, fanbase misses player. I understand it.
And because they are players who I am familiar with, I track some guys who go on to other teams.
But I'll be honest: At the end of the day, I pretty much don't give a poop what guys who play on other teams do. I just don't. Because they're gone, and most of the time, they're not coming back.
I tend to obsess over players who are here, or might be coming, not those who have left and aren't coming back.
But that's just me.

I find the eyeball test in this scenerio to be very good predictors... Drive down the street. Look at how the houses are upkept. The yards... The amount of trash on the streets. |
