Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks: Henrik Out 2 Weeks, Kassian Shines, the Playoff Picture The Vancouver Canucks will be without the services of captain Henrik Sedin as they ride a two-game winning streak into Minnesota on Wednesday to take on the Wild.

No Henrik + toughest sked = no chance of playoffs unless Matty can become henrik.
As for the injuries thing it would be interesting to see that broken down to depth players and top players. Top 6 + top 4 D vs bottom 6 and depth D.

Waiting for the Canucks to be mathematically eliminated so that Fosco can change his team & location for the summer. Probably the real reason why he is AWOL.

TVA's Renaud Lavoie broke the story. How is he getting this information?

My guess is Burrows, are there any other francophone on the team.

Ask him if he gets his weed from his father- inlaw? If it's a yes, then we found Fosco.

We suspect you might be an alt account for our missing friend, Fosco. There was an incident that involved chocolate, one time when his wife was away.

Why can't they even lose properly.. this push for a playoff spot is terrible, I had hopes on the 6th overall pick. Now it seems we may get 10th, but we need to pick it up and lose some games.

Carol, to say that the Canucks man games missed "is not even on the radar when it comes to total man-games lost" is a little off. As you noted, they are 8th in that category, which is still quite high.

Also, according to ManGamesLost.com they rank 2nd in "Time Missed Impact To Team," which attempts to measure not only the man games missed, but also the value of the players who were out. This is likely a much more accurate assessment of their injury woes this season, which fall behind only Pittsburgh.

Injuries are not an excuse. Other teams endure it throughout the season. As someone pointed out the other day, Nonis was fired after being told that injuries are no excuse. As he will again this year.

Roster management, player developement, trades and signings are what has turned this team into a slow-mo trainwreck. Oh, and throw in meddlesome ownership to the cluster-f*ck of issues.

Of course injuries are an excuse. People love to say, "Injuries aren't an excuse," as if it is some holy truth. Any team that loses its top players for a stretch will suffer. Look at Detroit. That is not to say that depth doesn't come into overall team performance, but you can't discount injuries.

Different players have to step up. Torts has to ride the guys who are going good like Jensen, Kassian, Matthias, etc... hopefully Kesler steps up like he can. Bottom line though guys like Edler, Garrison and the other D men have to be solid for a shot at the playoffs.

Let's look at Detroit. They've had long term injuries to their 2 best players, had their #1 goalie out for a chunk of time, not to mention the quantity of other injuries to roll players up and down their lines. They're response has been to promote rookies from within, trade for Legwand to slot in as their 1C, and the result has been a late season push that will more than likely see them in the playoffs again.

That is one finely run organization.

If Gillis and co. aren't planning on significant injuries happening every year their delusional. Every year we have multiple players go down with injuries and this year is no exception. Maybe they should focus on ensuring we have enough organizational depth that they don't run down our top players exposing them to further injury risk. When they do get injured they need to have enough depth to get through them without significant drop offs.

Injuries are a apart of the game and can be planned for and overcome. Will they impact performance - yes. Are they an excuse - no.

Organizational depth is one thing, but it is often how it is applied. Putting young players in roles where they are comfortable and can succeed. Thank gawd they put Jensen on the top line instead of the 3rd or 4th.

With Henrik hurt, does Kesler move up, then Matthias and Richards as 3c?

I would almost rather have Kesler stay on the 2nd line and see Schroeder and/or Dalpe getting a shot. I am not sure if we have seen their best, but Schroeder has been injured a lot and doesn't seem to have a lot of confidence. Dalpe looks really good at times, just wish he would show better finish.

Looking ahead to the draft, because the next little while is going to be a bit poopy. Lets say the nucks pick 10th. Who is out there and what do they need?

Ehlers, Kempe, or Fleury? Thoughts?
