I normally don't mind talking Bills and stuff here. But now we're talking about two separate drafts and I was totally confused for a min.

Can we try and focus on just 1 of them at a time?

- HonkFortheGoose

Bills=Take Mike Evans or trade down

Sabres=Reinhart no trading down unless its to 2 and you get something amazing

He said potential. That is true. it is also true that Leino has potential to be a 50 point guy.

As far as the Sabres are concerned, Grigorenko and Armia are after thoughts at this point. The hole the Sabres have dug is so deep they cant plan around late bloomers.

If we do not get Reinhart , if we draft 2 - Trade down a couple of picks get another high end center and maybe a 2015 first if others covet Ekblad so much . Surely we are not the only ones that covet Ekblad so much. I really like our defensive prospect depth and do not feel we could could get fair value trading any of them . Just for the sake of taking Ekblad

Everyone I speak to thought it would take at least a year for Armia to adjust to the North American Game . Grigorenko was a number 12 pick . He is no means a flop at all . Some players take longer to develop . That is not a bad thing. Just handled poorly by Darcy . You have to give the kid a pass on that one.

Can't tell if you read my entire post, but I did say that I'm hoping Reinhart. Just that if they choose not him, hoping a contingency plan was in place to trade a D and take Ekblad.
- SDSabre

No, I was adding to your post, not responding to it. That response was to hockeyhell, who insists Ekblad must be taken over a forward.

Wow for once I agree completely with you! If we end up picking 2nd and some other team drafts Reinhart ahead of us I'd just go ahead and take Bennett though so that might be where we disagree.. I don't think moving down 1 one or 2 spots would give us a 2015 1st with it being so deep of a draft. But I agree 100% on the Ekblad comments.

Doesn't mean a thing. Calling 19 and 20 year old's busts is premature. People a lot smarter than you or me and make a living projecting these players and they obviously didn't agree.

Not everyone makes the NHL at 18-19- even 20 years old

I don't disagree. My point is, where they are at in their development, what they have done thus far, I don't think they can be penciled into the Sabres lineup on any of the 4 lines right now. The Sabres cant assume these guys will fill roles and draft other players based on what they assume Armia or Grig will become. It they come along later and fill a role count is as a pleasant surprise.

As long as the Sabres have a Top 5 pick they better pick Centers
- RynoBull

It depends on how Ekblad, Reinhart, Bennett et al grade out with the Sabres internal scouting. If Ekblad is far above Reinhart you take him, if pretty close take the highest graded foward/center. I think the Bills and Sabres have shown us, ahem, Mike Williams, Grigorenko etc, you don't draft for need, you draft for the best player available.

Name the player(s) drafted after him that have succeeded in the NHL already....

Jesus It amazes me how people can dog on a 19 year old kid for not being an all-star in an dysfunctional organization

You never know , a lot of people think he is the second coming of Bobby Orr . I saw Bobby Orr play . Even went to his hockey camp that him and Mike Walton had as a kid. He ain't close , just my honest opinion.

The guy has a lot of flaws especially regarding his compete and skating abilities. The Sabres needed a center so they took a guy who other teams were passing on and who has those flaws. Mike Williams was a bust but the Bills needed a LT so they took him. My point is don't reach due to need when a guy (Ekblad) might be far and away better than the next forward.

If you are rebuilding you have to draft for need . We already have a ton of good defensive prospects who we won't get true trade value for till they are in the NHL for a few years. If Ekblad is that great in everyones evaluation his trade value will be through the roof.
