Patrick Marleu average 62 pts per 82 games. Drafted 2nd overall by the Sharks hmm I'd take him as well. You really are off on this one
- Stripes77

Overrated. He has overinflated numbers because he plays with Thornton. He is actually Average

Then I don't get why you wouldnt want that? Your entire argument here was you wanted more that the 65-75pt player. Well I just gave you 2 great examples of players that were top picks and have played a full career that average just that

Danny Briere averaged 80 pts per 82 games played in a Sabres uniform

Derek Roy averaged 67 pts per 82 games played in a Sabres uniform

Which one was better?

- Stripes77

Briere's numbers as a Sabre

Sabres Stats

2002-3 12 pts (46 with Phoenix)

03-04 65 pts

05-06 58 pts in 48 games (lockout)

06-07 95 pts

Not franchise numbers

Take Thornton away from Marleau and you don't have a very good player. But thats the kind of player you want..thats fine.

I also said that Breire was a one dimensional player. And if our pick was a one dimensional career 65-75 point player, I'd be upset.

Reinhart is a complete player. So if he is a Bergeron/Toews 65-75 point guy but great in both ends... That's different

As far as the Sabres are concerned, Grigorenko and Armia are after thoughts at this point. The hole the Sabres have dug is so deep they cant plan around late bloomers.
- Buffalo-Sabres

That's ridiculous
Guys drafted a couple years ago aren't after thoughts in ANY organization

Vinny is a career minus player. I would still take him.

Marleau is plus 29 not exactly amazing numbers there either. I would still take him

If you could Briere production in his prime out of a draft pick I would most certainly take him. Reinhart is also much bigger than Briere so his durability would hold up, something that hindered Briere after leaving Buffalo.

So they're going to save the worst team in NHL history? Grigorenko can't save a junior team.

+/- is a team stat.

Breire in his prime still was not a franchise changing player. We can agree to disagree on that all you would like but i'm pretty certain that he wouldn't be a 90 point player on this team.

Looking at these 1st overall pics over the past 40 years and seeing the D that were taken. I am picking a forward. 1st overall. A forward 1st overall has more impact on a team than a 1st overallD in my opinion.

I've been saying this as well.

I'm sure Ekblad ends up having a good career. I'm not going to come out and say I think he's going to be a bad player. But in general, a foward will have more of an immediate impact on the team than a defenseman will.

Factor in that we already have quite the stockpile of Dmen, and it's pretty much a no brainer that they need to take a forward this year.

Name the player(s) drafted after him that have succeeded in the NHL already....

Jesus It amazes me how people can dog on a 19 year old kid for not being an all-star in an dysfunctional organization

- sbroads24

Right?!
Maybe the kid doesn't work out, but it's waaaaay to soon to be throwing in the towel on him.
Same with Armia. Had a rough start, but he def picked it up for Rochester as the season move along

Considering that there are 2 players in the entire league projected to get to the 90 point mark this year, it's not really a good question to ask.

Right now Crosby is over the 90 point mark and Getzlaf is projected to just hit 90. Now, there's still some time so there could be 1 or 2 others, but really that question isn't quite valid based on the stats.

Oh, I know. I just found it interesting that there's only 2 players that may end up over that mark. Like I said, it could end up being 4, but in 06-07 when Briere had 95, there were 14.
