The Eagles have released WR DeSean Jackson. WOW didnt see that coming!
- ImThatGuy

I heard a few weeks ago this was a possibility. Do they have salary cap issues?

My latest Sabres rebuild plan (draft edition), target these guys:

Nick Foligno, Clbs. - at 26 yrs, he's a young utility player who this organization can grow with. His game is Hecht-esque, and his versatility would help stabalize this young group.

He's spent time with Tim Murray in Ottawa, and there's an even more obvious Buffalo connection with his younger brother already here on the squad. It seems N. Foligno fits this rebuilding effort seamlessly. (Two 2nd rd picks should be enough to land N. Foligno via trade).

Brad Marchant, Bos.- He's young, tough, & he scores goals. He's also a former player of Nolan's from juniors. Marchant could easily be groomed into a gritty second line winger in Buffalo. Would the Bruins maybe move him for a d-man like Erhoff?

Sam Bennett - A heart & soul type of kid, who is an excellent skater. I got to believe Teddy Nolan would love this kid. Now land another blue chip forward like Dal Colle with the NYI pick... Girgensons/Benett/Dal Colle!!!

- SuperCat

No way would Bruins move Marchant and frankly I'd never want that scumbag on out team... Pretty sure Nick just signed a contract extension so I doubt hes available. Also don't get your hopes up probably not getting the Isles pick.

A lot of speculation about Jackson and gang involvment, and other off the field issues.

Ah the Nashville approach? Cause it worked so well for them...all of those Stanley C...oh wait

Moving on

- Stripes77

It's not quite the Nashville approach because the Sabres have a few offensive prospects already in Grigo, Girgs, and Armia. Now if they did draft Ekblad, he most likely wouldn't play right away putting Buffalo in the cellar again, (who am i kidding, they'll be there anyways) but I don't know if Ekblad can just be thrown out because of last years drafts. Maybe Murray likes him more than one of the two we got? (he didn't draft either of them.) Or there is a plan in place to make a trade for an established offensive player. I'm hoping that they go Reinhart, but the only one that I would be ok with (with another plan in place) is Ekblad at number 1.

Ekblad would be a momumental mistake. Worse than Drury/Briere.

That's why I said with a plan in place, such as moving one of our D men already for an NHL/NHL ready player.

Easier said than done. It's unlikely you get a trade that brings back a forward of the same caliber as Reinhart.

To be honest though, If they draft Ekblad I'll probably be mad for 5 minutes before appreciating the fact that he is very talented and can still help us.

First pick needs to be ekblad. We need to suck one more year to get mcD. Then, back to finishing 9th.
And, the leafs blow. Year round.

- hockeyhell80

Getting Ekblad doesn't guarantee us McDavid you take the offensive guy this year plain and simple.

We need to take ekblad 1st, build an awesome D corps, then add the scoring next year with McDavid and free agents. Top notch goalie to put us over the top in 16. Thats what we need. Not Reinhart
- hockeyhell80

... First off top notch goalie?... How'd that work out for us before?? Oh that's right it didn't... We all ready have a strong D depth. Guys like Pysyk, Zadorov, McCabe and Risto will all be cornerstones of the team along with Myers... Also you don't have a crystal ball the chances of landing your golden child McDavid are less than 10% right now... So don't assume were going to land him. You take Reinhart who is exactly what this team needs... An offensive and defensive gifted true center who is a team leader and puts effort in all the time.....

I agree but it doesn't have to be the same caliber as Reinhart as long as Murray views whichever D-man he trades is that much worse than Ekblad.

While the current team is a total disaster, there are so many GMs out there that would love to have our prospect pool.

Girgs is not a top line player Armia is proving to not hit his potential of being a 1st line player and Grigs has been a disaster from the start... Need 1st line capable forwards plain and simple.

Adding to this thought, and to the one guy who by now seems like he's trolling from that we need Ekblad not Reinhart or x forward garbage..

Here's a quick thought. Instead of focusing on picking up one immediate forward..how about we pick up 2. That's awesome. Two amazing forwards on the top line in 2 years?! COOL! Cause..like..we have no top line players. None.

Yeah but I'd say without actually looking at everyone's team that every single team in the NHL right now has at least one player who would be our best player by a country mile. So while we have nice prospects none are top end guys
