Especially if he's a man on a mission. Maybe it's optimistic of me to say, but if the second line goes from a mess to red hot (please oh please), this team looks pretty scary. - BulliesPhan87
I want that second line to click with or without Lecavalier. Whatever needs to happen for that to happen. I just think the talk of Lecavalier not being a good player anymore is complete bunk. And I think that moving Lecavalier back to center on the 2nd line is the best way to get that line going. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but I want to find out.

If LeCavalier were playing well enough to stay in the top 6, or top 9 he would be there. He hasn't done so for a long time now, injury or not.
He also hasn't been very much of a force on that 2nd PP unit.
He wants more minutes? Earn them. If the Flyers thought this is the player they would be getting for 3/4 of a season I doubt they sign him to begin with.

I'm just trusting Berube's got his finger on the pulse of this locker room. He's gotten a team that didn't feel they could play they were expected to, to find confidence in their game. I think he can do something for this situation, too.
I mean, maybe he's despicable, useless human garbage now and needs to get to populating Old Country Buffet's and collecting social security. Anything's possible, I suppose. |

I want him to get going, and hopefully he does because he will be an anchor with that contract otherwise.
He has however had a variety of linemates, had the opportunity to play at center and wing, and had the chance to lead the 2nd PP unit.
He has been pretty damn poopty in every department imo, and not "initiating" enough good. His play speaks for itself, and he has been demoted because of it. Injury or not. That's the turning point it seems this year, because he was really strong before that happened, but it did...
Do wish he picks it up, but at this point its about the team. If they are better with him at the fourth line, then so be it. I don't like him on that 2nd PP unit either, because he brings very little to it. Ironically when he is supposed to be that leader of that crew. |

I think the "variety of positions" thing could be construed either way. Is he just not a fit anywhere right now, or is he not getting a chance to adjust? We don't have all the time in the world to find out, what with needing to maintain a playoffs position, and said playoffs rapidly approaching.
I know I'm a broken record over the past hour or so, but I think Berube's trying to motivate the player, while giving Schenn a chance at the position. |

As far as I am concerned, he has had 3/4 of a season to adjust, and this isn't some 20 year old kid finding his way in the NHL.
I am slightly biased though, once I make my mind up about a guy. Hopefully he proves me wrong.
That 2nd line, and PP unit have been kind of meh all season. Not sure if Berube can figure that out this year, is what it is. Vrbata would be an awesome addition there next year imo, but with Vinny on the books, not sure that happens.

You know...that's kinda what I was getting at earlier.
When he's drilling guys...sometimes, he's out of control and he hurts the team.
But sometimes, when he's drilling guys, he turns the puck over and it leads to scoring opportunities, change of possession.
It doesn't always result in goals immediately, and momentum is far too vague a concept.
But sometimes, when Rinaldo drills guys, it allows the Flyers to generate sustained pressure, because there is adrenaline released when he starts poop.
I don't believe in hitting for the sake of hitting. But Rinaldo's a little different -- he effing drills guys, and there are times when it actually does either get or keep the Flyers in a good flow |

I grew up with no less than 5 large dogs, pure bred, at any given time. By rule of thumb, you never stick your face in any dogs face regardless of how good the dog is etc.
Animal instincts are reflexive. They love you the most they can, but reflexively they may bite you and than feel bad about it.
Same goes for poking them in their weird butt pad area thing. Where their fur is a lighter color. Lesson I learned the hard way. - Flyersgod
Leight to the post but I am on 3 of 4 dogs to train and I get in the dogs face that I take hunting. The other two are goldens. My current dog 10 m old is very good but will still test me. I get in his face. If I am not pissed he will challenge and I have to be very prepared because a paw or snap will come because he thinks it's playtime.
I have been scratched and bit during playtime had enough to respect the hurtin a dog can do. |

Why doesnt anyone else have to earn their minutes? Schenn is playing pretty bad and gets shielded all game from tougher match ups.
Seems a little hypocritical. Just admit you hate Vinny and move on. |

Haha yeah.. I've wrestled 2-3 dogs at once and have bled a little from accidents. Miss those days. 140lb Rottweilers keeps you in shape.

Could it have been Schenn holding back the 2nd line? Vinny goes to another line and Rinaldo and Hall start playing beyond what they are.
Schenn gets his own line and the entire line is invisible with more talent. |

Which player has been a force on the 2nd unit PP? Lecavalier is 3rd on the team in PP goals among Flyer forwards. And he has more PP points then any other forward on the 2nd unit. Now granted some of those points are on 5 on 3 with the first unit. When the Flyers signed him, he didn't have a broken back.

If you don't like Lecavalier on the 2nd PP unit because he brings nothing to it, then you must really not like any of the other players on the 2nd unit. Because they bring even less to it then Lecavalier does.
Lecavalier was playing well for this team before the back injury. He played well last year for TB. It's not hard to put two and two together and realize what caused the poor play.

Why not try Raffl on the 2nd unit in McGinn's place and put Vandevelde on the 3rd unit in Raffl's place. |

It's a bias thing. They didn't like the signing and want him to fail so managment tries to run him off.
It's amazing the injuries he's had and gets no slack. He is also playing a new system with new line mates and a young developing player in schenn.

Vandevelde is a border line NHL player. He's a low minute 4th liner at the most.

Simmonds/Vinny/Raffl
Schenn/Coots/Read

I don't know if it's a bias thing or not. But Lecavalier is clearly capable of scoring PP goals. So to say that he brings nothing to the PP on the 2nd unit, is simply false.
