To be fair, everyone on the Islanders looks pretty horrible.

I don't understand why the flyers are so reluctant to bring up Akeson. He seems to be scoring a lot at the AHL level. Why do they refuse to give him a chance? Is he that porous defensively? Especially now that they have McGinn on the second line. Wouldn't it be beneficial to have a more talented scorer, since they already have a more proven net front guy like simmonds?

He's listed as third pairing, but he gets 2nd pairing minutes. He's been good for the team because they lack two-way defenseman. They finally have a guy, other then Timonen, who is solid in both ends of the ice.

Glad he's worked out so far. Good luck going forward (only if guys play the rags and pens )

He was sent down a while ago. Im talking about strome, lee, deHaan, etc. The bigger name prospects

It is his defense. I think they're worried his skills won't translate well. He's not a good skater and he's undersized. Couple that with his poor defensive play and you begin to see why he isn't a regular in the NHL.

Not saying I wouldn't give him a chance on that second line (they get shielded quite a bit anyway), but I don't think he's going to transform them into a better line.

Not that I'm a fan of projections, but he isn't projected to be much more than a 3rd-4th line player.

What do you think the Isles will do with their first round pick? Do you have confidence the team will finish significantly higher next season?

I'm still trying to figure out how a kid with the requisite size and was good enough to get selected to their WJ team fell through the cracks...

Lecavalier always plays on 5-on-3 power plays, replacing Jakub Voracek. This is done because Lecavalier has the slightly more accurate one-time from the same area of the ice and there is not much skating required on a two-man advantage.

I think Vinny's one timer is more than slightly more accurate than Jake's. Voracek's shooting is reminiscent of a stormtrooper at times. Vinny's shot is also a lot heavier.

I'm not saying I think he is going to be greatest player. I just would like to see him. I saw a couple flyers preseason games and he seemed to play pretty good, but again that was only preseason.

Bill said his offense came a little late. His size and two-way play are definitely intriguing though. Seems to be the type of player the Flyers really covet.

Fair enough. Doesn't hurt to try and get some different guys in the lineup. Don't know what you have until you let them play IMO.

Akeson is not the type of player that is going to play on the 4th line. He is a scoring line player.

I think his playmaking skills would do more for BSchenn and Simmonds than what McGinn brings.

He put up good numbers in junior and internationally... maybe he had a late growth spurt or something? Or maybe there's some key deficiency like skating that we don't know about?

That may be true. If Downie is out long term, thats something I would experiment with. If Downie is coming back soon, I don't really see the point.
