Schenn and Simmonds have looked very good as a pairing this year. I disagree, I think B Schenn is a much better center than winger, because that's the position he's played his entire career. I want to see Raffl on that line.
One game is enough of an evaluation? They played with an AHL forward. I guess Vinny is back to being the old Vinny after a 5 vs 3 goal

I think Simmonds has played very well on the power play. I think Schenn has been consistently inconsistent. I haven't really seen anything that tells me they have played well together. I have also seen nothing that shows me that Schenn is any better as a center. The numbers he has put up certainly don't seem to bear it out. I wish I could find out what his point totals are at each position. But I do know he went 16 straight games at one point without a goal playing center. And has gone long stretches since VLC came back. We keep blaming Vinny, but what was the reason while Vinny was out? Why did they look so bad against Toronto?

People keep saying it is one game but its not. There are plenty of games to look at.

I am in no way saying Vinny doesn't need to play better, but I couldn't really give a crap about Schenn in the long term when I believe that the second line would be better with VLC as the center and Schenn as the wing. I want what is best for the team NOW, and that is what I think would be best. I still think long term, Schenn should be a wing anyway.

I'm not trying to argue with you, even if I come off like I am. I dislike B. Schenn. I feel like I see him as this players that everyone thinks is gonna be great.. and I see a complete dud. Sure he shows flashes once in a while of something, but so did Zherdev.

It's more me hating on him than anything else. Him and VL have had similar years. Although VL has had a broken back and face and Schenn's been healthy.

I'm not sure what chemistry you speak of with Simmonds though. I feel like Simmonds has been one of our best players despite who he's played with.

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Leafs

B Schenn was drafted #5 overrall? He might not live up to that. But with Cooter and Giroux in the fold all he has to do is keep growing and working and he'll be fine. He'll be going against easier competition. I am thrilled with his improvement in the defensive zone this year. I dont need him to become great like Giroux, because the flyers need to afford him. I'm happy with him, and if it's b/w him and Vinny, I know who I want to go F off. If you dislike B Schenn, ok I guess we don't have to argue.

I see Vinny as a stop gap for a few seasons. I think B. Schenns on his way out.

If Coots offensive game continues to develop, Schenn becomes even more expendable. I think Giroux/Coots are your top 2 centers for the future. Schenn and Laughton battle for the 3rd line, but with the development gap I think VL helps out as an insurance policy in the event the trade Schenn.

When they signed VL I thought they were going to trade a center to avoid all this mess. I was wrong, sadly.

I guess we can disagree. I like B Schenn at center much more than the wing. Can he be better sure. Lets give him a real left wing that does his job

Ironically, as it turned out with Berube going with B. Schenn at center resigning Jagr probably would have been a better option.

Not sure about where the improvement is in the defensive zone. If it's there, it's negligible.
Why does it have to be a choice between the two? Why not have both playing well?

Lecavalier went out with a back injury before the Dec 2nd game.

In the 10 games that Lecavalier missed to that injury, Schenn had 0 goals and 4 assists.

Now before the injury to Lecavalier, when Schenn was playing the Wing, he had 7 g and 8 assists in 26 games, for a .57 pt per game average.

When playing Center after Lecavalier went out, he had 11 goals and 9 assists in 38 games. For a .52 pt per game average.

So tell me where is the great discrepancy between Schenn playing Center or Wing?

My question is this, and I think it's a fair one:

Giroux's line draws the toughest opposition, offensively. Couturier's line draws the toughest opposition, defensively.

That's fine. We all get that.

But if we still have to hide Brayden Schenn against other good lines -- and maybe we do -- then seriously, don't we at least have to ask the question of what, exactly, he's accomplishing at center?

If you're not shutting anybody down, and you're not a bigger threat offensively than the competition you're facing, well, (frank), you can do that on the fourth line.

Again: I'm not saying Vinny is the answer. But at some point, it's not unfair to say, "Golly gee, Baby Schenn...don't effing disappear against Nazem Kadri's line, at home!"

I don't think that's unfair to ask, right? Kadri's a young center, too! At some point, you do have to be compared to something, including your peers -- Schenn can't get a pass on potential every single freaking game, while other people get demoted!

Again: We all want Schenn to make it -- I want Schenn to make it. But if we have to effing hide the guy against every freaking team we face...then Flyersgod has it right: He's not ready for second-line minutes, if we can only play the guy 10 damn minutes, at home!

Just did a quick glance at how Schenn did while VL was out of the line up.

In the 13 games VL has missed this year, Schenn has...

1 goal
6 assists
+2

That's a pace of 44 points. With VL in the line up, Schenn has 32 points in 60 games. That's on track for 43.73 or rounded up to 44 points.

It doesn't matter if VL is in the line up or not for Schenn. At least from just this information alone.

In the last 20 games, playing Center, Schenn has 4 goals and 4 assists. Man, he's really killing it at Center.

And I'm not looking to kill Schenn here. Just trying to understand how Schenn has been so dam good at Center that he can't be moved to the Wing.
