Haha, well that's the case against enforcers... they literally aren't good enough to play in the league. Whereas, lot of so called plugs are pretty freakin skilled. - Tomahawk
Absolutely. But, I can say that a guy like Jason Akeson is much more skilled offensively that a guy like Hall/Rinaldo/Raffl, and is a better stickhandler than Simmonds and Hartnell. But to play in the NHL, you need more than that, which is why a guy like Akeson is yet to be an NHL player. I hear he's been working on his defensive game, but it seems like his defensive/skating deficiences won't be offset by his scoring.
Basically, just "having skills" isn't good enough, you have to have a VERY good game with/without the puck. It's more than just "skating hard and being able to stickhandle" although that helps. |

We can only hope that B Schenn works as hard every shift of every game like Clarke! - BiggE
I heard a rumor that Bobby Clarke once didn't exhaust himself by backchecking as hard as possible when the other team was coming at the Flyers on a 2-on-3 rush. What a lazy player. |

I'm thinking more 5-2-2.
Wins - @ Boston, Pit, Florida, TB, Buffalo
Loss - Boston, @ St Louis
OT/SO - Carolina, Columbus, - jmatchett383
Could see that too. I see a split with Boston and a loss in St. Louis as the only gurantees

I wouldn't call a split in Boston a guarantee. Honestly, a split in Boston should be considered a win. |

Oh for sure, it takes more than just skill. But it's like an SAT score... if you don't meet the base requirement, Harvard won't even look at your app, even if you're off the charts in every other regard. |

Caps were outshot and dominated a bit in stretches, but were able to keep Boston off the board -- Holtby made a couple of nice saves, including a 10-bell stop off an odd-man rush.
Good news for us: Boston's expending some energy in this thing, looking like they're engaged. So the Flyers might catch a team that isn't quite as refreshed as they could be tomorrow |

By the time they play the final game against Boston, the Bruins may well have the East locked up and be playing for nothing. I think they likely go 6-3-1 and finish with 98 points. I just hope they can jump ahead of the Rags and grab 2nd. Opening the playoffs with 2 at the Garden would be really tough. |

@pitt
carolina
Boston twice and st louis plus that nightmare florida trip where they never seem to do well....the need 7-ish point to make it.
how many games do you they win out of 9? - hogweed
If they can go 5 - 4 for this trip, they'll be fine.

I haven't taken the time to look at the final skeds of the other teams, who they've got left, but it could be that five more points -- not even wins -- but points, gets them a playoff spot
That was a big win last night for us, and a huge loss for Columbus in regulation last night
Detroit plays Toronto tonight. If Toronto somehow manages to get that in regulation, that would be an amazing result for the Flyers |

Lot of guys in Allsvenskan and the Elitserien can skate, check and play D... so why Raffl, and why only after he had a breakout year offensively?
Because to even be a 4th-line plug, a guy needs to have NHL-level puck skills. And you gotta score to show that you have it. - Tomahawk
Not to the level that Raffl can. If there's lots of players like Raffl over there, then the Flyer should get busy. The attributes that attracted the Flyers to Raffl are obvious. He was barely a point a game player in a tier 2 European League. If all Raffl had ot his game was his offensive ability, he wouldn't have been signed by the Flyers, and it's doubtful he'd be in the NHL. |

That's because it was a game where Bobby Clarke had his spleen removed between periods and the wound wasn't sutured properly.

No, I have them surprising everyone like normal, playing well down the stretch, and pulling second place in the division.
I just like to sit and watch everyone say they're going to suck in the next X amount of games. It's happened I believe 3 times in 2014. |

To think of how much was being pinned on James Reimer and to be honest, I didn't think Bernier looked that great last night. |

Yup!
If every current Flyer played as hard as Clarke did every frankin night they'd be fighting it out with Boston for first in the conference. Clarke was hands down the hardest working player I ever saw. |
