Bruins & Flyers from the east and Blues & Blackhawks from the west. - Marwood
The guy who drafts the star(s) from the surprise final 4 team usually finishes pretty high. I guess the Flyers would qualify, the overall public doesn't have them as a true SC contender. |

I think Bruins and Pens (they've been playing a bit under the radar) from the east and LA and Chicago out of the West (although basically the West is a crapshoot, with four or five teams that could get on a roll) |

Under the radar meaning they've been mediocre? That defense doesn't look too great without Letang IMO. Orpik has been pretty mediocre for them and same with Scuderi, Maatta is solid, but still a rookie and the playoffs are a whole different animal. Fleury in the playoffs is also going to be interesting. |

Well, they haven't exactly been playing stellar hockey, I agree, but I have a feeling they are going to turn it on in the play-offs - although I feel a lot of their success will be based on how Fleury comes back from the ghosts of past play-off meltdowns. |

The East is pretty weak so even if they're not firing on all cylinders they can make it far with a healthy Crosby and Malkin. |

Some interesting results in our hockey pool, should be interesting to see how things shakedown as tie breakers. |

Lets hope for a lot of 3 pt games this week. |

Saw this at HF..
Most goals as a 17 year old in the WHL since 2000:
Shinkaruk - 49 Goals(5'10)
Kane - 48 Goals(6'2)
Dawes - 47 Goals(5'9)
Petan - 46 Goals(5'9)
Virtanen - 45 Goals(6'1)
Even Strength Goals(Virtanen apparently doesn't get as much PP time as he deserves):
Virtanen - 35 Goals
Shinkaruk - 32 Goals
Petan - 27 Goals
Dawes - 25 Goals
Kane - 24 Goals
Others: Upshall(24 ES Goals), Eberle(25 ES Goals), Gallagher(26 ES Goals), Brule(22 ES Goals), Lazar(22 ES Goals).
Virtanen should be the Canucks #1 target IMO(realistically, since it's very hard to move into the top 5 and none of those guys have a chance to be around in the 9-11 range). - Nucker101
The rest of the players on that list have much more appetizing goal:assist ratios. This dude seems Booth-esque

I think it's based on 1) previous results between the two teams, followed by 2) seed number, and 3) overall winning percentage, but not 100% sure
Edit- some good first round match-ups indeed |

I'd go with the Boston Bruins way of doing things and draft defensemen. Haydn Fleury is who the nucks should go for. Good size already, is going to probably be on team canada at the world juniors cause sutter is his coach, and he had a good season with red deer even though they aren't good. 2nd best D-man in the draft. |

Agreed. There were a couple of good match ups but I wish Nucker hadn't throw in the towel going into the weekend. It would have been way closer than it currently looks. |

Anyone else notice how a year after Booth's surgery it looks like he's actually playing well again. Didn't the doctors say it will take a full year before he feels 100% again? Don't waste the compliance buyout on him. Worse case scenario he sucks and plays on the 4th line or is sent to the AHL. Save the buyout for someone like Garrison. His chronic groin issues really same to have taken a step from him. Another 4 years of groin issues and he'll be a useless cap hit. |

Okay, I'm even more confused now. So is it whoever has the best record in the playoffs in the pool wins? Where's Fosco when you need him? |

I agree this D needs a big injection of Talent. Get the forwards in trades and prospects and try to trade for Ekblad if you can |

You play matches, I think the quarters just ended. Now in the semis, then finals next week. Guys who just lost finish 5-8 depending on regular season points. |

These people are delusional. Even several months back... I didn't care if they made the playoffs because, the outcome with this group would be yet another predictable sweep. Rather be re-building than fooling ourselves. |

Finally we are assured of the missed playoffs. I was getting nervous of all the winning lately. To retool this year is probably the best time. We have a weak draft so the management wont be dumping vets for picks and go in a tail spin like Edm or Fla. The cap is going up and the core is getting older. Some guys that want to win will be okay with being traded. Hopefully we make smart hockey trades. Get players with cap hit back if that means getting that 2lc or top 6 winger. I just hope MG really does have a plan. I hope they don't buy out Booth but instead use that money to send Torts home. Hire a younger generation coach that believes in youth and Move MG to president role and hire a real GM with experience and an eye for talent. Get rid of guys like Kesler, Burrows, Hensen, Higgins, Edler. Although we might have missed the boat on Burrows and Edler. Burrows cannot create chances. He needs to be setup, but Henrik is old, slow and has too many injuries that he played through over the years for this iron man streak and now they are taking its toll on his body. Borrows will no longer be useful and before you make the argument about penalty kill and energy, this team is full of 3rd and 4th line guys for PK and energy. Whatever Canucks do I hope they don't bring up Bo and Shink next year. Give them 1 year in A to get used to bigger and faster player and better goalies. |
