Well, first of all, I'm amazed to know there are professional leagues below the ECHL, and that one of them is called the Federal League.
Secondly, how is this even possible? I know that, in the CHL, there is a sort of foster program where families will provide room and board for the players while they're in the league. But, say your son was interested in Minnesota. Do they expect you and your family to just up and move out there? If so, that's crazy.
Overall, while it's very interesting, it seems completely illogical to me. I have a daughter and, if she had her options, there would have to be a limit both financially and logistically as far as leagues. I mean, what if you have a kid who's scoring at a Gretzky-like pace, but you can't afford the $20K. Does that mean he's basically stuck playing in rec. leagues? Because, barring something miraculous, I can't see ever paying money like that for any one of my future kids. - jmatchett383
It works pretty much like the CHL. The put them up with families. We had one lined up before the coach said defense and my 13 yr old said no. You can't make him go.
Butala, the kid who is going to Maine was playing in the Empire League last season. On Friday after school his parents drive him to his first game and then pick him up on Sunday morning if they couldn't stay. That could be anywhere from New England to New Jersey.
If you kid is elite, they'll find him. The Valley Forge Colonials have a house league up to PeeWee. Their Colonial teams start at Atom through 18U in Tier I. If you excel the House Tier II team is the Valley Forge Minute Men. Tier II teams are scouted. You'd be amazed at what they'll offer your super talented kid. |

Well, let's take Bobby Ryan as an example. Obviously, a supremely talented local player (I guess maybe Johnny Gaudreau works as well). Let's say that Mr. and Mrs. Ryan are having trouble making ends meet as it is, and Bobby gets an invite to a Tournament Travel team or the Empire League or some such equivalent. Travel and schedule aside, is there a "scholarship" or waiver type of help available for the elite of the elite?
Also, I hope all the best for your kid. Where do you see his path leading to, if he continues to pursue it? |

I don't know. Everyone pays.
My son is done. He had to commit at the Bantam level and he didn't. He's stagnated. He's a very good Tier II player. He could be a passable Tier I player with no problem. The players around him are getting bigger, stronger and faster and he's settled in to just enjoying the game. He'll finish out his last two seasons playing in Valley Forge and with his High School and that'll be it.
I'm sure he'll keep playing in the areas men's leagues for fun after. I didn't need him to do anything more than enjoy himself any how. It's been good for him. |

I'm so happy you think this. Seriously. It seems like no one outside of my family knows this movie exists. |

So....I know that posting fake rumors and/or not naming a source is a bannable offense. Seeing as this is not the case (Ek's blog), am I assuming that these rules do not apply on April 1st of every year? Can a mod confirm? - jmatchett383
I wouldn't try it. You aren't the owner of the site. |
