Yeah, there are some shady areas for sure. But the city is amazing. Great nightlife! Right up there with Montreal. If that's your thing.

One of my teaches back in high school has a sister that teaches there, apparently any object left unattended even on your own desk in schools there is free game for anyone to take.

Very true. Riding their mass transit system in from the airport is like riding the wooden roller coaster at Playland. Very exciting.

Chicago Great place but the shady areas are worse then East Hastings. I remember being in Chicago for a conference that was a last minute decision. Had to stay south side for 1 night due to all hotels booked dntwn. I called for a cab to pick me up for dinner and he refused to come. I had to walk 5 mins to the cross road and hail a cab. The kicker, this hotels was brand new, opened less then 6 months and the area was the good part of south side. The only downside is that the places are too far from each other.
