Win-loss record means bupkiss. That's like saying a pitcher with a 1.34 ERA who's 2-16 sucks... No, he just doesn't have any run support.

I've watched quite a few games that Bernier bent over backwards, did his part, and deserved the win but the rest of the team decided that scoring a goal or two was not important.

- Not_Stee

no. it's not even close to that. it's like saying that a pitcher who goes 12-12 with a 4.00 ERA is just OK.

Thinking that Bernier would have saved the leafs is such a silly notion I can't believe it.

Let's look at it this way...

Typical Bernier outing = 2 goals given up on 49 shots, Leafs lose 2-1.

Typical Reimer outing = 4 goals given up on 29 shots, Leafs lose 4-3.

What happens when you put Bernier in Reimer's situations?

- Not_Stee

Leafs lose 2-1?

Listen, even you guys as Hab fans will admit that even though your D had never been up to par, Carey Price steps up to the plate, masks the problem, and leads them to the dance.

All I'm trying to say is that even though the Leafs suck, Bernier can do that whereas Reimer simply cannot.

No it isn't. You know it and I know it.

Now WOULD he have saved the Leafs... maybe, maybe not. COULD he have... damn good chance.

The Habs, unlike last year, didn't poop the bed leading to the playoffs. The leafs? Not so much.

no one is denying Bernier's ability to steal a game here and there. what's being debated is that, as is typically the case with a Toronto Maple Leaf, he played some good hockey this season and he's been built up into a star even though most of his numbers are pretty average. it was the exact same situation with Reimer, who is about to be run out of town a year later.

This is on three people...

Nonis = Should have traded Reimer from the get-go when he had value and would have avoided this whole mess.

Randy = Should have stuck with the 1A/1B tandem.

Reimer = Should have stayed professional and not drag the team down to spite the coach because the little girl's feelings were hurt.

A goalie sv% gets inflated quite a bit when he faces 40+ shots every night.

his save % is for sure. but his W-L record and GAA are not good. obviously the Leafs terrible D is responsible for some of that. but before this guy's head is fitted for his HOF bust, let's remember that his numbers from this year very closely resemble Devan Dubnyk's from last year.
