I'm still on the fence with MG personally. I know you and many others want him gone, but I'm a sucker for the GM's who actually value the in-depth numbers instead of the guys like Nonis and Burke. Lombardi, the Kings GM is also one of those guys. I'm not sure how much Detroit uses them.

Gillis may use detailed statistics in his analysis, but he hasn't proven he knows how to translate those into prospect (or pro scouting) gold.

Ken Holland seems to be the only one who can.

I can't go another year of no second line
- VANTEL

I'll even be happy with a youthful second line, or a combination of youth/vet.

I read the scouting staff, under Mike Gillis's direction, did a complete about-face on their scouting methods. Apparently they did an analysis of the players drafted, league wide, over several years, they said it was quite apparent where the kids who had the most success came from.

In a nut shell without getting in depth that's the just of what I read. Last year they employed the new methods and I believe they had a very good draft.

Small school. Hawks worked him out at CB.

John Schneider is everything I wish Mike Gillis was.

That is interesting...

With the perception of ownership not wanting to throw money away (who does) I am not sure if Torts won't be given another year to get some results or if ownership would be that upset if Gillis walked away from his job/contract if it meant saving money.

I guess it comes down to wins/losses and revenue. Can't afford to fire and payout a contract or can't afford not to make the change for the good of the team.

I still wonder if Torts can coach the system Gillis wants? AV was able to change and many thought he couldn't.

- hillbillydeluxe

AV didn't really coach, he let the players account for them selves.

Haven't heard of him to be honest. I wouldn't mind the Eagles drafting Bradley Roby in the first.

Cody Latimer could be a mid round steal as a WR, 6'2+, 215 lbs, apparently has sub 4.4 speed and came on late with 6.7 receptions, 102.3 yards, 0.75 TDs during his last 10 games. Ran 4.39 and had a 37" vertical while still rehabbing his foot injury. Also had the most bench press reps at the combine.

They seem scared to fire him, he's probably the guy who Gillis pretends to listen to....

Ran a 4.5 40 outdoors in awful weather. 11'+ broad jump . 43" vert . Sub 7sec 3cone.

Yeah the Hawks are high on Latimer too. As far as 1st round CBs I only like Gilbert & Verrett that high.

Lombardi is a better GM than Gillis. So is Holland. I want a good GM that can properly assess the talent at his disposal, make trades that can change the dynamic of the team if required and improve its make-up. I think we are a big enough franchise to have that person. Gillis is not that person and he's shown it.
