Lombardi is a better GM than Gillis. So is Holland. I want a good GM that can properly assess the talent at his disposal, make trades that can change the dynamic of the team if required and improve its make-up. I think we are a big enough franchise to have that person. Gillis is not that person and he's shown it. - AlexF
Do you think David McNab or Bob Nicholson could be that guy? |

I read the scouting staff, under Mike Gillis's direction, did a complete about-face on their scouting methods. Apparently they did an analysis of the players drafted, league wide, over several years, they said it was quite apparent where the kids who had the most success came from.
In a nut shell without getting in depth that's the just of what I read. Last year they employed the new methods and I believe they had a very good draft. - LeftCoaster
That's pretty much the only positive we will take from the Gillis era. I think our scouting has turned the corner... They seemed to have keyed on traits that will lead to success in the NHL. Prospects playoff performance maybe... |

...Oh and keeping Rollie Melanson around was pretty great too. Although I'm pretty sure it was because he "worked well with Schneider" |

This Gillis love feast is making me sick. If you guys keep making excuses why we should keep Gillis we will never get rid of him, FA reads this crap you know. |

Gillis said today that they will make difficult changes like they did when he first came in. I had to look it up but that basically meant the following:
2008 season: not resigning Naslund or Morrison then offering Sundin a monster contract. Fired a couple assistant coaches.
2009 season: resigning the twins, Lu, added Sammy and Erhoff. Added Maholtra and Hammer in the offseason.
If you look at 2008 as the year he said he made difficult decisions, what would a comparable be this year? He can't not resign or just trade guys because of NTC's and if he keeps Torts, there will be many players who won't want to be here. I think it was telling that he said "people" and not specfically "players" won't be here if they don't buy into what he's selling.
AV was able to coach offense and so was Babcock. Neither was an ass like Torts though which is the difference. Anyone can change. Even Rocky knew that. Take your dogs and leave town John. Yippee Ki Yay MF.

5 games left. Anything more than 3 points will be a disappointment. 25th is there for the taking, then the possibilities of jumping to a top 3 pick. |

too much pressure on the kid to perform. let's shoot for 4th or 5th. |

I dont agree that AV was "able to coach offense"... IMO his defensive system just wasn't as suffocating to the players' instinctive freedom to create offense as Torts'. I dont like either of their styles. Not my idea of "entertaining". |

Sportsclubstats has the current odds at:
4th: 0%(no chance)
5th: 1%(aka no chance)
6th: 7%(need everything to go right basically)
7th: 12%(somewhat decent chance after these last 2-3 days)
8th: 17%(with the way this team is going I think top 8 is likely)
9th: 20%
10th: 20%
11th: 13% |

It's not that I don't want us to get a high draft pick when the season is clearly lost, but cheering for us to lose has always made me feel a bit uneasy. Maybe that's just me. - AlexF
I'm cool with it once the season is down the drain, not from the get go like the Oilers in the past and Sabres this year. |

Bro Jake and Pratt are the biggest dildos in the media but have to give it to Pratt he asked Gillis the tough questions today.
I hate hate hate the champ - VANTEL
Yeah, except he asked the same question twice. "Will Tortarella be back next year?" Gills with long winded explanation about every member of the organization going through a thorough review and then decisions being made. Pratt "but will Tortarella be back next year?"
Even when they ask pointed questions they are stupid. |

I'm going to the game against Colorado next week with a bunch of guys from work. I'm sure the only guy cheering for the Canucks to win will be the flames fan |

Vantel - if GMMG is true to his words, and he's still employed by the Canucks, with a new coach and a return to a more offensive minded game the Sedins will be 70+ point players again next year. - LeftCoaster
Just like that. Replace the coach and we are back to what.... last season's Canuck and still in a much tougher division than the NW was?
We may see an offensive minded coach next season but he may be no more successful in this division. We also may see a more offensive minded coach next season and we still see this core fall down for two months. The team's trend had flop written all over it anyways.... |

Gillis is going nowhere. - VANTEL
Yeah, the whole either you see things my way or your out comment all but assures Gilles is back. I'd love to see them bring in Dudley as GM and Gilles as president.
Another draft or 2 as good as last yr appears to be and we r looking good prospect wise |

Rick Dudley please - Bieksa#3
No to Dudley. I would rather take a run at Ron Hextall. He played with Moxy has a great track record in front office. Worked his way up from pro scout to AGM. He would be a better fit and has relationship with the 2 teams that we want to trade with. He maybe able to get us Brayden Schenn or Simmonds. |
