Its funny how many people saw this coming for the last couple of seasons yet its all Torts' is doing and FA's bad hiring. Do you honestly believe we switched to a type of rebuild part way through the one season because of the coach? This has been building for years now. We didnt have Torts when this decline started.

If Gillis stays, the people who are spending so much time deflecting Gillis' mishandling of this team the last three years deserve this kind poop product.

I think pretty much everyone was on the same page with respect to Torts. Not the first choice but tried to be open minded. Looked like a pretty solid choice up until the end of December.
- Canuckleafer

Only in the standings. Even leading up to December a fair few of us were questioning the huge ice times being played by our top 2 lines. Then the injuries started to occur, which is the logical conclusion to being overplayed.

I've gotta believe every owner is involved in some respects; they should be concerned about the business perspective moreso than the hockey. One is not indifferent from the other though. With a good hockey operation, you've likely got a good business operation.
- LeftCoaster

Yeah, but you gotta think he should trust his GM to do the job, and when you're meddling with coach hiring, contract negotiation (Luongo) and trades (Luongo/Schneider), you obviously are getting too involved and that trust is not there.

I thought it was made clear that Eakins was an intriguing candidate but his lack of NHL head coaching experience precluded him from getting the job.
- 89_hockey

Where did you hear that? I don't remember, but did Eakins get just the 1 interview or did he get a 2nd like Stevens/Torts?

Just 1 I think. EDM snatched him up pretty quick.

Seem my post on the last page, I'd say both deserve some blame. I don't think Gillis is stupid enough to not realize that this team didn't have a chance at the cup this season(he basically said so himself).

Yeah, I'm not sure if it was because he preferred that job or the Canucks just said no thanks(or weren't giving him good vibes about being a serious candidate). Bullet dodged.

I am going to rain on this Kumbaya session. Gillis was humble and said he wants to get back to that fast break out hockey with the Dmen first pass break out style , physical big team.

Where is he going to get the players to do this? I don't see too many Canucks winning foot races with Duchesne , Couture , Kane .

Gillis has said yer after year we will get bigger faster tougher and yet every year does nothing to the core.

Unless there are serious changes to the top 6 it will be the same ol same ol . Don't be fooled by Gillis's smoke and mirrors

I think it's two-fold; obviously Mike Gillis hasn't put the players on the table, this team has lacked secondary scoring for years, or stocked the cupboards with his drafting or lack there of.

Also, John Tortorella, in my view, completely mismanaged the group that was given to him. That's on him!

In other words, we should be better than we are (that's on Torts) but not good enough to contend (that's on Gillis). I'm with you.

Yes definitely... Smoke and mirrors. Watch us roll with a Lack/Markstrom tandem next year simply because GMMG has no idea what else to do.

Trade everyone.

Next season's line up:

Shinkaruk Horvat Fox
Gaunce _____(centre acquired in Kesler deal) Jensen
Archibald Cassels Schroeder
Lain Mallet Grenier

This will give the prospects some experience while catapulting us to the top of the mctank for mcdavid sweepstakes. A win/win.

People keep pointing at Gillis' comments about changing the way this team plays to a more offensive style when he was first hired. People are forgetting he said they had to change it again after our cup exit..... and now he wants to change it back he's saying yesterday. Full circle guys and this started before Torts.

Theres a lot of selective memory Gillis is counting on people having and it's easy to see it happening right now.

Columns in the province. Threw a lot of cold water on the idea Eakins was the front-runner. Maybe it was my interpretation but it really seemed that Stevens was driving the train until torts derailed it.

I thought it was John Stevens that Gillis wanted? Eakins looks like a terrible coach to me.
- Nucker101

I believe Eakins was interviewed by the canucks and they were no where near ready to make a decision. So he took the offer in edm dispite wanting the Vancouver one because of his wife. But the guy posting that Eakins chose edm over Vancouver has always been an honest poster.............. so he must be right

People talk about FA being too much hands on yet Gillis has insisted to his HC that he choose the PP coach. The last three were all Gillis' hirings and the PP has been falling ever since his fist choice Walter was selected.... then Brown... then this clown.... all Gillis on those hirings....

If we are trading Kesler and Edler we better be drafting a couple times early. Ho Sang and MDC

Wasn't our PP the best in the league by a country mile the first couple yrs brown was here? Bordering on record setting?
