Jesus, put your franchise in the hands of a punk kid who constant has off ice issues. Does what has happened in edm and tor really seem that amazing that we want to do it too?

- Bieksa#3

Dude's not a lost cause no matter how badly you want that to be true. He's 22yrs old, has 97 NHL goals (197 total points), and hits/skates like an absolute SSSAVAGE (One Man Thrill Ride Voice). He'll mature in the right situation. I'm not saying the Canucks provide that environment, but ideally they SHOULD and he COULD.

I don't see anybody here defending Gillis.
This team is in turmoil. That's on everyone. Gillis, Torts, the players and the owners. It's not one person's fault. The players are under performing. But even if they weren't, this team can not compete with Boston, St Louis, Chicago, LA, etc.
Something's gotta change at every level. They need better players, who are coached better.

- hankthetank

It's going to be a long process. Gillis might have to keep Torts around for one more year to leverage out a few more NTC's. Sigh.

If the Flames were offered every player in the Canucks organization for every player in the Flames organization they would say no

Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks: Mike Gillis Says Team to Return to High-Flying Old Ways
Vancouver Canucks' general manager Mike Gillis drew a line in the sand during a Thursday radio appearance, saying he wants the team to get back to the uptempo playing style that made it successful in past years.

- Carol Schram

That will happen right after he is canned.

Pronger will stay on LTIR, it's the only way to keep his cap hit off the books. I'd rather have Moulson over Vanek, he'd be cheaper.

But if I had my chose, I'd rather trade Kesler and Edler to fill the gaps in our line up that would enable us to truly roll 4 lines. I think that shock the core enough for the time being.

- Chest Rockwell

Pronger is officially retiring. That means the cap comes off. This deal was signed b4 the current CBA. Bettman will have a huge issue if he tries to enforce current CBA on contract signed in the old CBA.
Kesler and Edler trade will not net us NHL ready top 6 center. I would be inclined to keep Kesler to see how he responds to the new direction and trade him if at TDL if things are not looking good. Edler, as much as we love him, his value cannot be any lower right now. He needs 1 season with an offensive coach and style to bring his numbers up to be trade attractive.

I don't get to see a lot of the younger guys play in the system. Who actually has a chance to come up?

If MG could somehow pull that off, I'd be on board but the Jets GM would likely be run out of town IMO. Seguin apparently has off-ice issues, ask Dallas how he's working out with Benn. Edmonton is just poorly managed and doesn't have enough(any?) quality veterans that can control a locker room.
- Nucker101

Are we comparing Seguins on ice performance to Kane

Or are we comparing how much off ice trouble they have gotten into? Seguin is day and night better then Kane and has has far less issuses

Wrong. He is 35+ which means the cap hit remains. This was in place in the last cba as well

Doubt it, but I'd be pumped if that's the case.
- Nucker101

Really? We are what? 22 now? Ottawa is sure to pass us. Carolina seems like a good bet as does Winnipeg and Nashville give either remaining opponents or games in hand. I'd be shocked if we weren't 24th or 25th at this point

Sorry but you're incorrect, Seguin has 198 points in 280 games, Kane has 197 points in 320 games. One is a smooth skating slick center the other is an in your face power forward.

"night and day" is a HUGE overstatement on your part!!!

People talk about FA being too much hands on yet Gillis has insisted to his HC that he choose the PP coach. The last three were all Gillis' hirings and the PP has been falling ever since his fist choice Walter was selected.... then Brown... then this clown.... all Gillis on those hirings....
- boonerbuck

Yeah, Brown sure was awful when we had the best PP in the league...

Trade everyone.

Next season's line up:

Shinkaruk Horvat Fox
Gaunce _____(centre acquired in Kesler deal) Jensen
Archibald Cassels Schroeder
Lain Mallet Grenier

This will give the prospects some experience while catapulting us to the top of the mctank for mcdavid sweepstakes. A win/win.

- hankthetank

Schroeder will be playing in Europe next year

Kane has had injury issues this year and Seguin has 40 more points this year (which makes their points even), given the roles they play, they're both great young players.

Seguin was underappreciated and underutilized until this year. Got an opportunity & is a PPG stud. Kane is STILL underappreciated and underutilized. Just waiting for that opportunity.

Considering the roles they play, the skillsets they have and their ages, I don't know how anyone can hate on what Kane's done in this league. Just (frank)ing wait...
