My bet is July. My bet is that this'll be the last too. I know it isn't a popular view, but I'm ready for them to shed Maynard and be an instrumental group.
PS The best album of the last 10 years is Queens of the Stone Age's ...Like Clockwork. Even my 17 month old baby friggin loves it. - ThirdEye
Most probably the last.
I disagree about losing Maynard. |

If we're talking Tool, aren't they pretty much an instrumental group? I think about 4.3% of their music includes vocals.
Also, QOTSA maybe put out the best "mainstream" album of the year (or whatever you'd call them), but I'd argue that Down to Nothing's first LP, the newer H2O record, and the Judge discorgrpahy are all better. |

Did I say they were rock n roll? Ever?
I agree. Rock is dead. Nothing will touch the 60s-70s-some 80s classic rock rock n roll. |

I said this before, but if you want to check out something you probably haven't heard before, listen to Russian Circles...
First, they are named after a hockey drill. Second, that have a song called Hexed All named after our future GM.
Heavy instrumental music. I'd start with the song called "Harper Lewis". |

Jesus (frank)ing Christ. "Classic rock" wasn't all that good. A bunch of coke addicts writing sappy songs about shedding all responsibility and living in a world without any rules and doing acid. Earth-shattering.
The Who are amazing. |

I'm not saying he *should* go. I'm just saying that they'd do fine without him. I don't think it matters though, because at this same pace, they'll be in their late 50s - early 60s by the time yet another album came out. I don't know if I want to hear from them at that age. I hope they go out on top. Hard for me to say that with them being one of my absolute favorite bands ever... but I don't want to see them dwindle into garbage.
PS, any Kyuss fans here? If you like metal and things that aren't garbage, check them out. |

There is only so much you can do with a guitar. And now with the internetand the ease of using your own recording software everyone and their mom has put together every possible combination of music you can think of and put it out there for people to hear. There is no such thing as original anymore. Haven't you been to theatres to see Superhero movie #37 yet? It is supposed to be the best one yet. (Again). |

I think it will be their last album as well, which is why I'm definitely going to see them. They are taking longer and longer between albums, Maynard is in a bunch of side gigs, and there seems to be a bit of tension there... Plus, they aren't getting any younger.
I don't know, I love Maynard's lyrics. But I'd definitely dig some instrumental tunes from them. Of course Reflection and Triad are two of my favorite songs. |

Classic rock is kind of a bs label though. It only gets that label because so much incredible stuff was coming out at the same time. So much of it is exactly as you describe... but Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, a lot of others... just incredible, timeless stuff. |

Led Zeppeling gets labelled "amazing" because they were "innovative." The 2 do not go hand in hand. They were a good band.
As for innovation, The Ramones, Minor Threat, and Michael Jackson were 10x as innovative as any band since The Beatles. |

Look, saying things like this about music to someone is useless. The reason there's so much music is because everyone has different tastes.
Don't try to shoot my tastes down. I haven't tried to shoot yours down, have I? |

Nope. They just have amazing musicians and most of their songs are quite a bit longer than the cookie-cutter 3 minutes most bands are putting out, so that probably makes it seem lighter on lyrics. |

Man, you and I are on the same page. I've recently started getting the baby to bed with Disposition (this is the same baby who thinks A-Train by the Delta Rhythm Boys is the greatest song he's ever heard).
At a show I saw in Phoenix, someone hit Maynardo with a bottle. He stormed off stage while they played 46&2... I actually didn't even notice he was gone until he came back in the middle of the next song.
I apologize for helping to derail the hell out of this thread. |

I'm relatively sure you're not familiar with my music, and trust me, most people in my life has ridiculed my musical taste (rightfully so). I just find the fact that we adore and idolize these drug addict womanizers because they were good at playing guitar to be faulty. |

Led Zeppelin wasn't all that innovative though. They were mostly just ripping off old blues songs, just like the Rolling Stones. All four being irregularly talented is what makes them amazing... and I'll definitely have to disagree with you for once... they are amazing. |

They also have a lot of prerecorded music. Take the song "Your Own Eulogy" which is one one my favorites. I think there's a good 1:30 (maybe1:45 due to the drawn out title lyrics) of lyrics in a song about 7 minutes long. |
