Well put. Jimmy Page's solo on You Shook Me is all you really need to hear to know what makes Led Zeppelin amazing. - ThirdEye
As much as their new music is awful, check out the solo in DragonForce's "Fury of the Storm" and you'll find a solo that he never could have played. Or basically anything by Rhapsody (of Fire). I'm sure hew was good for the time, but some of these "power metal" guys are ridiculously fast. |

I'm with you. Like soap mixed with some vague citrusy flavor. When I lived in Arizona, it was much easier to eat Mexican food. Real mexican food didn't have it... TexMex or other crappy fake-ass Mexican food always did. - ThirdEye
Good call, you'd be surprised how many people don't realize what they call mexican is actually texmex. And cilantro is nasty; also the reason I never went back to baja fresh.
I want to nominate the Strokes for good contemporary band. I really think they should rerelease Is This It/Room On Fire as a double album.
And i haven't had a chance to read much lately, but can Ghost play for the Flyers after the frozen four? Or dowe wait till next year? |

Then listen to punk rock or, better yet, hardcore. You want youth energy and rebellion, there ya go. - jmatchett383
Yeah, I grew up in the late 80s early 90s punk/hc scene... Even then things were already beginning to wind down, and we'd lose scene kids to raves daily. |

If he signs, he can. I don't think the Flyers are comfortable throwing him into the fire like that |

It isn't without flaws, but I'm not sure what you mean. Can you elaborate? That whole heavy metal thing is just bizarre, I totally agree. - ThirdEye
Sure can. My dad, who LOVES Led Zeppelin, says that Led Zeppelin I has the most mistakes of any studio album he's ever hard.
If they're really that great, why didn't they notice there were mistakes? Did they not notice? Not care enough? Do too much acid to notice? If you're an exceptionally talented band, wouldn't you want to put out the best quality of your songs possible? |

Well yeah, hardcore goes through swings. It was huge back in the late 90s, died in the mid-00s, came back up around 08, and is in a big downward spiral right now. |

Fast isn't always good. Dragonforce plays so fast that they could just hold out a note most of the time and it wouldn't sound that much different. I do enjoy their music and am not criticizing them. Arm strength is great and all, but led zeppelin is musically talented in a different way. Playing choppy music and making it sound so good. Making beautiful meaningful music like Stairway with just simple stuff is amazingly hard to do with a gifted mind for music. |

Because they wanted it raw, vintage, and authentic.
I'm speculating, but that certainly could be the reason.
That's why the Beatles put their "live" recordings from the roof onto Let It Be. Hell in the beginning of the album version of Get Back, you can hear Billy Preston still warming up on the keyboard 15 seconds into the song.
Maybe they wanted that way. It doesn't have to be perfect if you don't want it to be. That's the beauty of art, isn't it?

Fast is poop. These bands and Dream Theatre = guitar masturbation. Can't stand it. For fast+good, try Buckethead. |

That wasn't my point, as I don't care for DragonForce all that much (although their first NA tour was pretty fun). You called all members of Led Zep "irregularly talented." My point is that there's tons of people today who are just as talented at playing the guitar. |
