So, do the Leafs follow the Sabres model and blow up the team and rebuild? Will be more difficult for them they are stuck with Clarkson's no trade/movement contract and Dion Pheneuf's new long and expensive deal. I wouldn't want to be in their fan's shoes. - GilPerreault11
Was kinda hoping the leafs snuck into the playoffs so they would have zero chance of winning the lottery. |

Funny. I was kinda hoping the Leafs missed the playoffs so they would have zero chance of winning the cup. |

Hodgson...but he needs better players around him. Looks terrible with these 3rd and 4th liners...but did play well with Vanek and Pommer on his wing. I do think Ennis and him are interchangeable though..so will be interesting to see who stays. Clearly Ennis is playing much better now though.

I agree, don't think they both stay? Similar game, but moving Cody to wing might be best and keep him here? |

Thats good to hear. The league probably feels no obligation to let us tank for a top 3 pick, but there are teams like the islanders that have a decision to make about whether to use a pick this year or next year, and they should be allowed to make their decision without guessing what the rules might be. |

Buff News:
The 2015 draft will be top heavy with franchise forwards Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel, and rumors recently flew that the NHL would take significant steps to discourage tanking next season. Reports suggested the league might use a lottery process for the first five picks, or it would base the lottery odds on teams’ performances over the last three to five seasons.
Since the Sabres are expected to be near the bottom again next year, fans didn’t take kindly to the proposed changes. Murray doesn’t expect any changes, based on his talks around the league.
“We’ve all heard that talk of the five-team, five-year rotation, things like that, but there’s been really no appetite to do that,” Murray said. “They don’t think there’s any appetite right now to change it. I believe if there is an appetite to change it, if they’re going to make a drastic change, it has to be something like three to five years out so it doesn’t affect somebody that’s in that position now.
“From what I understand, they’re not worried about tanking for McDavid and Eichel.”
As for this year’s draft, Murray said there are four players in the conversation to be drafted at the top. The GM will meet with the scouting department in May to determine who should head the Sabres’ list. |

And will give you 60-70 points if given at least one first line winger. |

With an eye towards 2 years from now, neither. With any luck hodgsons role will be filled by sam Reinhart. I cant say that ive seen a bunch of Vancouver games, but it looks like kassian isnt providing any offense, and he is both reckless and inconsistent with his physical presence. Again- nick ritchie sounds like the player we wanted in kassian. |

So maybe the question is Who do you want the Sabres to retain between Hodgson and Ennis.
For me, it's Ennis...although he must keep playing the way he is lately since Nolan took over. Under Rolston, Ennis looked completely lost and was the king of the turnover...trying to do too much, trying to think too much rather than just go out and play within the general system. |

if the sabres draft a enter in the first rd, and assume he plays right away
the team still needs a second line center, coho
the team has no depth in the farm at LW so ennis stays there
armia is rw
gringo is wild card
girgens is a third line center right now
no need to move coho or ennis
plus if you move ennis then the slowest team in the nhl gets slower

If Murray wants to make a splash and acquire an Evander Kane or Bobby Ryan, you would have to figure Coho or Ennis are in the conversation, along with Ehrhoff. |

The sabres are tanking next year. We all know this. Hodgson and ennis will be here next year so we dont get shut out every game. Murray doesnt want small players. I cant see a guy that covets bigger athletes wanting a second line with ennis and hodgson, especially given hodgsons defensive lapses. At some point, murray is going to move one of them.

TM doesn't appear to be to receptive to building thru FA.When he talks about this team in the media he always seem s to talk about the next 2 drafts and building thru our youth never about FA. |
