Hank might play tonight.

From NHL.com

"Sedin practiced Friday on a line with wings Chris Higgins and Nicklas Jensen. Sedin's playmaking ability would be a huge asset for a Canucks team scrambling to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs".

Indeed, tickets still available for tonight's game

Uhhh, yeah exactly. Your point?

If someone does it better than it's ever been done, WTF's the point in clutching onto a delusional nostalgic bias?

- DrChristianTroy

What has Crosby done better than anyone else? Dominate the game? His list of scoring titles and career to date accomplishments is kind of weak for being the best player of his generation. He hasn't exactly dominated the way Orr, Wayne, Mario or even Jagr had in their respective primes.
Orr and Gretzky changed the game for better and for worse because they were much head and shoulders above anyone else in their era (by a wide margin).

Crosby has neither dominated his contemporaries, nor influenced the way game is played. In fact, Crosby has benefit from rule changes to promote more offense (clutch and grab penalties, no lame 2-line pass rules, etc).

Having said that, Crosby would easily be a top player in the late 80's and early 90's, right up there with Wayne, Mario, and Messier, but I don't think he would be a perennial Hart or Art Ross trophy winner.

Anyone see the latest NHL mock draft composed yesterday: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=712635

Notes: They have us drafting 10th with each author offering a different pick.

Perlini
Kapanen
Fleury

Ehlers goes as high as 6th and as low as 16th.

Dal Colle is obviously top 5 in all three versions

My opinion stands for all of those other guys too.

I never said Gretzky wasn't the stud of his era... Here's my bottom line... Take all the studs from each era (in their primes) and put them on the same sheet of ice. Crosby is the best ever and it isn't close. He would murder them. Fitter, faster, thinks & plays at a speed they couldn't fathom. As good as those others were in their eras against those goaltenders/dmen/schemes etc... They'd be absolute sh!t if they traveled through time & tried to compete in today's NHL with skills that were considered "elite" when they played. Crosby's the only guy out of all those names who would dominate ANY era with his skillset.

PS I own a sh!tload of Gretzky memorabilia so the more people who disagree with my POV the better for its value I guess...

- DrChristianTroy

As you state...era.

Give Gretzky the training and systems of the players today...or take away all of the advancements that Crosby has been able to use throughout his career.

Crosby is as good as Gretzky, Gretzky even thinks so himself. But head and shoulders better? No.

Crosby has not lived up to the hype, I don't think he's nearly as good as Gretzky was.

I hate seeing Messier at 2, I hope someone passes him. And why did Gretzky retire without getting 3000???

- Scooby_Doo

Jagr probably would have passed Messier had he not left for the KHL for the few years he was there.

On Thursday, Gillis announces he may not be back next year. A few hours later (Thursday afternoon), Bob Nicholson announces he's resigning from Hockey Canada effective June 1 which is 4 weeks before the draft.
Several teams (most recently Calgary) have created a new position that the GM reports to called President of Hockey Operations.
Nicholson's roots are in BC, his kids play in BC leagues and he has a home in Penticton.
One thing for certain, Nicholson is not retiring, he's the type of person to have something in the works before leaving Hockey Canada and although there have been rumours for years about him taking over the IIHF that move doesn't seem likely.
Imo, the Canucks could do a lot worse than hiring him to run their team.
Any thoughts on whether this might happen - or why it couldn't?

There's a handful of players that this silly comment absolutely does not apply to.
Gretzky would be at the top of this list.

Gretzky couldn't fathom the speed at which Sid thinks the game???#
"Maybe this guy has never actually heard of Wayne gretzky before"...

I think he's just in a mood and looking to be devils advocate. We all know Gretzky is far and away the best ever.

officially eliminated today? I think it takes a combination of a Canucks regulation loss and a Phoenix win.

If goaltenders still did that half-assed standing kick thing, Crosby would be a 300pt player. Games from that era are a joke to watch. They play like div 10 players @ 8 rinks.

Um, ok. For these defenders TO has that are so fantastic they sure do seem to let a lot of shots go through them. It's probably all Carlyle's fault though.

Put it this way. As horrid as Edmonton's Defense is, Toronto is probably the worst choice of trade partner to try and improve the D.

True that. It's logical that you'd need to find a trade partner that was strong and deep at D to propose a F for D hockey trade.

Really, the only teams that need offense and have D that I can see as good trade partners are the Blue Jackets, Coyotes and (gulp) the Canucks.

Problem with trading for the Canucks is this:

Canucks Proposal: Edler for Eberle
Edmontons Proposal: Gagner for Hamhuis

This could go around in circles for hours.

We're not good trading partners for you for a number of reasons.

I'd think Nashville would be a good partner. They'll never be a team that scores a lot under Trotz but even with that horrid system in mind they still are pretty lean up front, and that was before they traded away Legwand.

Shea Weber
Roman Josi
Del Zotto
Seth Jones
Ryan Ellis

They've got a few that may be of interest.

Really?

Throw in some picks, prospects or 3rd/4th line players to even it out...

(Gagner is not the answer for us right now... How about Markstrom for Yaks?)

Maybe. I think that group is pretty young still. Roman Josi is good, but I think he would struggle in Edmonton .
