I didn't say that any team would crumble with one injury. Again, what team has a top 9 caliber forward waiting to be inserted into the lineup, in case a regular top 9 forward is injured? - MJL

Considering they haven't built a championship caliber team in 40 years, I think it's safer to say they can't build one then it is to say they can build one.
But hey, argue the crap out of it so you don't have to admit you're wrong. - Flyersgod
Winning a championship and being championship caliber are two completely separate things

When the Red Wings were crippled by injuries they made this transaction on Nov 21. How is it working out for them?
Who's the Flyers version of Nyquist?
Gustav Nyquist - W - Red Wings Nov. 21 2013
Gustav Nyquist will be called up from the minors by the Red Wings.
Detroit will be looking for him to provide an offensive spark, as the club has struggled to produce secondary scoring so far this season. Nyquist has been excellent in the AHL this season, where he had seven goals and 21 points in 15 games prior to his recall. |

The Blues have to prove they can win in the playoffs before being considered for anything. As of now they are just a great regular season team. Hey, if you are happy with just being "competitive" and every 5 years or so make a decent run to the conference finals or cup finals just to be able to say "wait till next year". That is you. Myself personally, I want my team to win the cup. I want my team to be a serious threat to win a game every time they take the ice. I want system installed by a coaching staff that is put in place longer than 2 or 3 years. I want my team to stop being "competitive" and be contenders. Like I said, I am glad you are happy with just "good enough" I am not. - Daveflyers36
So you are saying that the Blues are not a Chapionship caliber team?
I'm not happy with just being competitive, and never stated that I was. I want a Cup like everyone else does. I just understand where the team is at in it's development, and know that there is some patience that is needed. But in my opinion they're headed in the right direction. There is a few key moves that need to be made. Along with the continuing maturation of young players. We'll see what happens.

If you draft well & let them develop you'll have players who may not be "super stars" to start but they'll be over ripe & be able to step in and contribute.
But the Flyers while starting to finally add to their limited prospect depth are still in need of more but continue to trade away draft picks like they are the latest drug on the market. |

The Flyers have numerous young players already in the NHL lineup. They don't need a version of Nyquist.

I'll disagree here, they have nobody in their system that's near his offensive ability as a prospect.
If they didn't they'd have just found a way to keep on the NHL roster or maybe even used them in a trade. |

Yes. It's laughable to think that most teams options after one injury hits are McGinn and rosehill |

One thing I will say, we are all fans.
I don't like that its being made out to be that some are arguing that the Flyers suck ass, and every jersey should be burned.
Middle ground folks, middle ground.
Edit: Same as for those saying the team is promising. There are benefits to that side too. |

I didn't say that they did have any prospects in their system with that offensive ability. The Flyers top young players are already in the NHL.

The Flyers option to move into the top 9 with Downie injured was Raffl.

You asked a question what team has a top 9 forward ready to be inserted into the lineup. The Red Wings called up a kid in November that has more goals than anyone on the Flyers roster. You asked the question, and I answered it.
Clearly the Flyers don't need Nyquist, he wouldn't be able to crack their lineup.

So was the Red Wings player, he was in the minors because at the start of the season they didn't have room for him.
Injuries gave him the chance & he's helped them be at the point they'll be heading to the playoffs for the 23rd straight season.
He basically spent all that time developing in the minors, I want the Flyers to be at a similar point someday, but that might just be a pipe dream. |

The fact that the Blues can't get past the 2nd round being a top team during the regular season means they still have to prove themselves. Getting Steve Ott and Ryan Miller might be what they needed to get over that hump. But why are we in development if just a few years ago we were 2 games from winning the cup. Building a championship team isn't having a revolving door in the locker room looking for a quick fix every year. Or firing the coach that got them to the finals. There has only been one constant the last 7 years and that is guy in charge of players and coaches. Being a one hit wonder team(and that is what the 2010 team was) isn't being a championship caliber team. |

That's one team. And Nyquist has done a great job. It's not common for a team to have a player come up after a number of injuries, and produce like that. Look around the League. Look at the Forwards that each team has. Flyers have one of the deepest corps of forwards in the entire NHL.

I'm aware of where Nyquist was at the start of the Season, and how he was developed. It's not a common occurrence.
Flyers have been strong over the years in drafting and developing forwards. |

Sure they have to prove it, but I'm just trying to get a simple answer of if you think they are Championship material or not.
The Flyers since the trades of Richards and Carter have shown that they're dedicated to building around this core of players.
Going to the Cup finals is being a Championship caliber team in that Season. We'll see if this team can get to that level.

Well for most NHL teams it's not, for the Wings letting the players develop so when they step in they are more than ready to go seems pretty common. |

The Flyers squeaked into the playoffs as the 7th seed on the last day of the regular season and had a favorable draw in the 1st round against the devils who the Flyers owned that year. A miracle happened in the 2nd round against Boston all the while the 8th seed knocked off the 1 and 4 seeds. So we get the 8th seed in the conference finals. That in your opinion is a quality championship caliber team? Just because they got there because things lined up perfectly for them? The fact that the Flyers haven't gotten past the 2nd round since speaks volumes. |
