I have a feeling the pool semi-final is going to go down to the wire... |

If leading the scoring race by 20pts in this era isn't domination, I don't know what is. - DrChristianTroy
He's been in the league for 10 years, has 1 scoring title and 1 stanley cup. That's great, but not dominating.
Even still, there isn't much question that he is better than his top competitors. |

The more important question is why isn't RNH as good as Gretzky was? - 1970vintage

I expressed that in my argument and explained the criteria. The interesting thing (to me) is; How much more functional strength & speed can realistically be added to today's athlete? Will the gap between the 80's NHLer & today's NHLer be equivalent to the gap between today's NHLer & 2040's NHLer? I highly doubt it. I think we're reaching peak performance in this era. - DrChristianTroy
Some good points. The level of specialization in virtually all aspects of modern society, not least of which in sports, is quite phenomenal. I don't think we've hit the ceiling quite yet as undoubtedly new regimes in training and advances in nutrition will have a further effect. But I think it's safe to say the era of having a night out on the town and scoring 2 goals in the next day's game, no matter how talented you are, is officially over. |

Not trolling but do you ever wonder where you'd be had you selected Seguin and Landeskog rather than Hall and RNH? |

Drafting 11th overall instead of top three all the time?
RNH is gonna be just as good as Seguin, more points thru their first 180 games. Hall is just as good or better offensively as Landy but not as good defensively. It's the other picks that have been a problem. |

Stanley Cups prove nothing when it comes to individual ability & skillset. As for scoring titles, Crosby's injury problems are the only reason he hasn't won the scoring title multiple times (his PPG proves that).
Speaking of PPG, Crosby sits 4th all-time (1.4) playing in THIS ERA. Pretty (frank)ing dominant considering the only other players from this era on that list are Malkin & Ovechkin, and they're far in the rearview. On the other hand, the list is riddled with Gretzky's peers... Wonder why? #Sh!tGoaltending #Sh!tDefense |

Disagree but don't feel like getting into it. I think from a team balance perspective they'd have been better served drafting Seguin and Landeskog but that obviously my opinion. Anyway Edmonton's troubles go far deeper than just their draft record. |

Ya - they should have drafted Seguin and RNH, you build championship teams thru the middle. |

I was just listening to Torts' presser from yesterday and it seemed weird when he was asked by a reporter about style of play and systems and what they are trying to do and how Torts said he didn't want to get into it but would sit down at the end of the year (about 8:30 of the interview) and hear from the reporter what the reporter thought his approach and style was and he would talk about what it was or what he was trying to do.
Torts was saying he let the style of play go with/because of the injuries and didn't bring it back soon enough.
It just seems weird that he would say his intentions and interpretations of his system would be so different than that of reporters and I guess fans.

He's the first year coach of a team that's taken a nose-dive this year in the standings. I wouldn't look for gems of understanding at this point, nor full transparency.
I listened to Gillis' presser the other day because I heard it was actually interesting for once. In reality these guys are like big kids crying about whose most to blame for breaking the toy.
The season is lost and I've had enough of pressers at this point. Show me don't tell me. |

Not to mention before he was hit by Hedman he was on a record setting pace and took players almost 2 months to catch up. |

Sometimes. I still think of the 4 players in that equation, Hall is probably the best. RNH can still catch Seguin as a credible top line Center. |

Again, Crosby has not been durable enough or managed to stay healthy enough to truly dominate the league the way Wayne ,Mario and Jagr have. But I get the point your trying to make. |

A few years from now the difference between Seguin and RNH's production will me minimal at best. |

Playing the devil's advocate but...
we always hear about how Wayne had Semenko and McSorely as a body guard and then look at Sid who seems to always get cheap shotted every game. Could or did Gretz take the same abuse and be more injure free or keep up production?
But what ev.

I'm not so sure about that. I think Seguins compete level bypasses RNHs. Hall and Seguin are the better comparison.
But thats very true that its best to build through the middle. Years of calgary not developing centers was plainful in that regard. |

People say Wayne was shifty and hard to hit. Dennis Savard said he tried to cream him plenty of times but Wayne was too aware of his position. Of Course, Denis Savard couldn't even play in todays NHL so it's a moot point. |

I guess we will have to wait and see.I'm not about to write off RNH at the ripe age of 20 yet. A year ago there was plenty of criticism about Seguins game, but a funny thing happened-he got better. If you can't see RNH improving thats your deal I suppose. |

Ugh... apologies to whoever I just accidently "reported" (not sure how that all works), but they really should move that "!" box farther away from the "QUOTE" box 'cuz these celly touchscreens are too tiny for my mitts. |
