How sad is it that Santorelli is still 6th in team scoring ?

He's been out since Mid January

If I can quote the great John Tortorella..."depends on your teams depth"

He's the first year coach of a team that's taken a nose-dive this year in the standings. I wouldn't look for gems of understanding at this point, nor full transparency.

I listened to Gillis' presser the other day because I heard it was actually interesting for once. In reality these guys are like big kids crying about whose most to blame for breaking the toy.

The season is lost and I've had enough of pressers at this point. Show me don't tell me.

Sorry for rehashing, I was just looking at Ek's "Jets and Canucks Changes Coming? Update after dinner..." blog and thinking, duh! Had to talk to a source to figure that out? I guess he really only passes stuff on and doesn't make it up as has been speculated.

So what moves do you see happening?

Markstrom kept or dealt? (he should be start a couple games before the season ends)
One of Garrison, Edler, Bieksa, or Edler traded?
Tanev and Stanton resigned or traded?
Coach or GM change.
Key ufa targets?

As I said in a few posts, I want to see what pending rfa's look like with more minutes like Dalpe and Schroeder. Kassian has been looking good this last stretch and don't know if he needs more playing time or is fine with what he has been getting.

And I want to see Markstrom start at least two games, see what he has, his value.

Is Jeremy Welsh still Canucks property? (can't see him on the cap geek page).

I guess we will have to wait and see.I'm not about to write off RNH at the ripe age of 20 yet. A year ago there was plenty of criticism about Seguins game, but a funny thing happened-he got better. If you can't see RNH improving thats your deal I suppose.

If shoulders puts on some weight he will be just fine.

I knew as soon as he was hired he would make it a pissing contest between him and the GM.

Not surprising at all on a team that has no structure on how to score goals.

He looked very restrained in his presser. Very patient listening to the whole question even though he knew he wasn't going to answer it. He looked stupid when he wanted to argue about average toi for Kesler...

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks it is all to build justification for when he really explodes. How much can he take?

The Kings record versus the Canucks this season?

I need the Kings to win tonight to stop donkey lover from gaining another point in the pool!

- 1970vintage

that's @#$@#yak-lover, feckface! (don't make me come down there and take away your Matlock box-set and Geritol stash, ya fossil*

Good match up, though - as Chesty LaRue said, looks like it's going to come down to the very last day.

*yah, I know I should talk - I'm so old *wait for it* that dinosaurs rode ME to school

Edit: good input on the Gretzky debate. As quite a number of you noted, the best indicator is just how much better a player is than the rest of his peers in whatever particular era. To that end, Gretzky was not only light years ahead of his contemporaries but he (like Orr) actually changed the way the game is played. On that basis alone, I think that the ridiculous stats he put up are almost secondary in terms of the bigger picture. Only a very select few athletes have ever been able to have that sort of impact on their sports.

I liked Torts presser. He seemed sincere in both his accountability and conviction.

Gillis sounded to me like he was deflecting. If it were a battle of character, I gotta go with Torts.

Ugh... apologies to whoever I just accidently "reported" (not sure how that all works), but they really should move that "!" box farther away from the "QUOTE" box 'cuz these celly touchscreens are too tiny for my mitts.

Can't hurt if that's the goal. Who exactly do you want to see moved anyway?

Silver linings!

I think the whole Calgary mess was a big mistake on his part but wonder if he can coach more than that one system or adapt it to make for an easier transition. Then again, he said they got away from how they wanted to play and I may be thinking of how they weren't supposed to be playing.

Blame?
Either they were either playing over their heads the last couple seasons
or Torts' 1/2 adopted system is to blame for a team not making the playoffs with much of its core intact,
or the team was in decline and Gillis didn't make the necessary adjustments to the roster for success- more scoring and grit was needed but not addressed.

Lots to go around. Torts does make it a bit more interesting but no less frustrating.
