Silver linings!
I think the whole Calgary mess was a big mistake on his part but wonder if he can coach more than that one system or adapt it to make for an easier transition. Then again, he said they got away from how they wanted to play and I may be thinking of how they weren't supposed to be playing.
Blame?
Either they were either playing over their heads the last couple seasons
or Torts' 1/2 adopted system is to blame for a team not making the playoffs with much of its core intact,
or the team was in decline and Gillis didn't make the necessary adjustments to the roster for success- more scoring and grit was needed but not addressed.
Lots to go around. Torts does make it a bit more interesting but no less frustrating. - hillbillydeluxe
Half of the Rangers roster has increased their productivity this year since Torts left. I am not selling Torts or his style, but I am happy he is exposing this team and pointing out that they are not made for playoff type hockey. |

I'll bite. Not sure if it is what I want, but what management may want or is a possibility.
One of the four dmen should be moved and depending on what would come back, two of the four could be traded.
Sedins will never be moved.
I think management wants to keep Kesler but I think he will be moved eventually, just hoping we get a good return.
I could see one of Hansen, Higgins or Burrows being moved.
That would be a lot of change if a couple of the d get traded and Kesler along with one of H, H or B. Especially if a couple rookies make the roster like Gaunce or Horvat along with Corrado getting promoted.

Full blown fire sale? I think the best way is to take it slow. Move the Oldest pieces first, and not a rapid paced house cleaning for draft picks. The only reason I suggest that is I think it might be dangerous to have all your prospects the same age. |

Sorry for rehashing, I was just looking at Ek's "Jets and Canucks Changes Coming? Update after dinner..." blog and thinking, duh! Had to talk to a source to figure that out? I guess he really only passes stuff on and doesn't make it up as has been speculated.
So what moves do you see happening?
Markstrom kept or dealt? (he should be start a couple games before the season ends)
One of Garrison, Edler, Bieksa, or Edler traded?
Tanev and Stanton resigned or traded?
Coach or GM change.
Key ufa targets?
As I said in a few posts, I want to see what pending rfa's look like with more minutes like Dalpe and Schroeder. Kassian has been looking good this last stretch and don't know if he needs more playing time or is fine with what he has been getting.
And I want to see Markstrom start at least two games, see what he has, his value.
Is Jeremy Welsh still Canucks property? (can't see him on the cap geek page). - hillbillydeluxe
Taking your questions in sequence, IMO:
Markstrom - I think he's allowed to work with Rollie Melanson the rest of the season and summer and will be in the fold next season. It's possible that he gets moved if a decent offer is made, in which case we'll likely sign a vet like Greiss to back up Lack. Markstrom has a strong pedigree and I'm loathe to simply get rid of him at this point for a 4th Rd pick.
D-men - they all have NTCs so the ball is in their courts. Of those guys, Edler appears most likely to be moved, but if he supplies a limited list of trade destinations like Kesler did, we'll probably be underwhelmed by the return.
Stanton gets re-signed, Tanev gets either re-signed if his demands are modest or packaged and traded. Corrado slots in full time.
Kassian and Santorelli get re-signed.
Both Shroeder and Dalpe get either traded for something minor or simply let go.
Welsh will be an RFA but won't ever get more than a cup of coffee for the Nucks |

All for the right price and if they are willing to move with a NTC should be available. That said I would keep Sedins, Bieksa and Hammer. I would love to make it work with Kesler but I think he may be moved for assets.

Who would call first with an offer? Meaning, who do you think might have the most interest and would be cool with the salaries. |

It's a bad amount, but do you not think he would get that much on the open market from Philly or Edmonton? |

Not my first choice...but if he hit free agency he would probably get 7 mil anyway. |

Det could let go Alfie and take them. On
TB could take their saleries. SEdin Sedin Stamkos would would be a nice line since St.Louis left.

Really. I don't see where they fit in on any of the top contending teams. I think their great, but at their age, nobody is going to restructure their already quality line up to fit them in. I think your list has about 19 too many teams. |

I was thinking Phoenix. That move would put them over the top I think, so long as it mostly cost them picks and prospects, maybe a player like Boedker and a depth player. |

I hear that argument a lot. The general point I'd make is that re-signing a player before his contract lapses is supposed to be advantageous to the team. You've got plenty of time to get it done, the player gets used to the city, etc. If you're re-signing a guy at UFA prices then that's a poor bit of business by team management. |

It would have to be a hockey trade with New york to make the salaries work, but there's a few really good young forwards that could help Van for a long time if they could get Kreider and Brassard. |

I guess the risk was not being able to replace him. This years crop of UFA's is weak. |
